Why Do Lovers? Lyrics
Come now baby
Stay in bed, don’t think that it’s lazy
Get ourselves another God
Don’t let them tell us there isn’t one (isn’t one)
Stay, sweet honey
Life’s so fashion, know it ain’t funny
Get ourselves another God
Don’t let them tell us there isn’t one (isn’t one)
Like we are just skin
Can you behold
No beauty within
No beauty inside your body
You don’t love anybody
Why do lovers
Choose others
We circle, entwine one another
In that mask that we wear with each other
Oh my God how I looked in that mirror
I looked in a hollow picture
It was something I could frame
That’s right, sweetheart
Life is tough now, life can be hard
Don’t blame me for these pressures in life
Don’t blame me for this sacrifice (sacrifice)
Okay, sweetheart
Take your time, I know lovers they part
Time slows when you’re in love
But time moves so fast when it’s getting on (getting on)
Cause we are just skin
Can you behold
I’m no beauty within
No beauty inside my body
I don’t love anybody
Why do lovers
Choose others
To mirror their pain, yeah
Slow down stranger
You know that you’re in danger
These demons I got, they’re a manger
Praying for you to lay
Stay in bed, don’t think that it’s lazy
Get ourselves another God
Don’t let them tell us there isn’t one (isn’t one)
Life’s so fashion, know it ain’t funny
Get ourselves another God
Don’t let them tell us there isn’t one (isn’t one)

Calls her baby and sweet honey, has obviously just screwed her because he wakes up next to her, and wants her to stay in bed... by the end he's calling her stranger. Is like he's asking why should we fall in love, just because we're lovers? Doesn't want to fall in love / commit to this person eg "Don't blame me for this sacrifice". Seems like a bad message to be giving but I think given how much he says he doesn't want to fall in love, and how much he questions the reasons "Why do lovers?" tends to suggest that he's too late and already in love.
I think this song is about love and how it goes threw stages.
He starts off talking about how love starts it is great and sweet and he's saying keep like this don't change. "Stay, sweet honey Life's so fast, ya know it ain't funny"
In the middle of the song he mentions how they are starting to have problems and he's saying dont blame these problems on me "Life's tough now, life can be hard Don't blame me for these pressures in life"
He is also saying why do lovers choose others this maybe an indication of them cheating on eachother.
At the end of the song they have broken up and are now strangers to each other.
I bdd. So I no beauty within.
