I Dreamed Last Night Lyrics
Oh, I dreamed last night I was hearing, hearing your voice
And the things that you said well they left me, left me no choice
And you told me we had the power
And you told me this was the hour
That you don't know how if I could show you now
Well, I dreamed last night you were calling, calling my name
You were locked inside of you secrets calling my name
And you told me lost was the key
And you told me how you long to be free
That you don't know how, oh, let me show you now
Like a bird on a far distant mountain
Like a ship on an uncharted sea
You are lost in the arms that have found you
Don't be afraid, love's plans are made, oh don't be afraid
If there's a time and a place to begin love
It must be now, let it go, set it free
Oh, I dreamed last night I was hearing, hearing your voice
Why did you say those things that have left me, left me no choice?
When you told me we had the power
Why did you tell me now was the hour?
But you don't know how, oh, let me show you now
Like a bird on a far distant mountain
Like a ship on an uncharted sea
You are lost in the arms that have found you
Oh, don't be afraid, love's plans are made, don't be afraid
If there's a time and a place to begin love
It must be now, let it go, set it free
Oh, I dreamed last night I was hearing, hearing your voice
And the things that you said well they left me, left me no choice
And you told me we had the power
And you told me this was the hour
That you don't know how if I could show you now
You were locked inside of you secrets calling my name
And you told me lost was the key
And you told me how you long to be free
That you don't know how, oh, let me show you now
Like a ship on an uncharted sea
You are lost in the arms that have found you
Don't be afraid, love's plans are made, oh don't be afraid
It must be now, let it go, set it free
Why did you say those things that have left me, left me no choice?
When you told me we had the power
Why did you tell me now was the hour?
But you don't know how, oh, let me show you now
Like a ship on an uncharted sea
You are lost in the arms that have found you
Oh, don't be afraid, love's plans are made, don't be afraid
It must be now, let it go, set it free

This song is actually not from the Moody Blues, but from the Blue Jays who had as their band leaders Justin Hayward and John Lodge of the Moody Blues.
I love this song! It is one of my all time favorites. And I think the lyrics can only make complete sense when you view them as a conversation between two individuals - one person who had the dream, and the other 'person' who was in his dream. I will also go on to speculate that since John Lodge is a Born Again Christian, I believe the 'person' whom the dreamer dreamed about was God. And it is God who is answering him in his dream. As the lyrics are written and subdivided by verse, it is not obvious when one is speaking to the other and visa versa. But with that perspective on the tune's lyrics, the song makes perfect sense to me.
Old thread but Michael is correct - this is a side project from Justin Hayward and John Lodge of the Moody Blues. I was fortunate enough to be in Carnegie Hall on March 10th, 1975 for the world debut of this album. It was a special experience that I'll never forget. Been in love with it ever since. And especially this song from Side 2. Spinning the vinyl right now, in fact. That's what got me here. I would also agree with Michael's interpretation. I always thought of it as a love song, but after all, God loves us too.
