My love is like first steps in this snow, baby,
I follow you everywhere you go, baby.
The pain as light has come to wake you
But you will never realize
That I inspire the dreams that guide you baby.
You're a half a world away
But in my mind I whisper every single word you say.
And before you sleep at night
You pray to me, your lucky star, your singing satellite.
Your singing satellite
You say a prayer
You say a prayer
You're a half a world away
But in my mind I whisper every single word you say.
And before you sleep at night
You pray to me, your lucky star, your singing satellite.
I follow the winds that bring the cold, baby,
I light a fire in your soul, baby.
The lightest touch of feathers falling
My love may be invisible
But I inspire the dreams that guide you, baby
You're a half a world away
But in my mind I whisper every single word you say.
And before you sleep at night
You pray to me, your lucky star, your singing satellite.
I follow you everywhere you go, baby.
The pain as light has come to wake you

this song is about Paavo (one of the above & beyond DJ's) and his wife. While away from home he sent his wife a christmas card saying that even though he's half a world away, they can still see the same star, and that keeps them connected where ever they are in the world. FYI OceanLab is Above & beyond, but with Justine as there main singer. One of my all time favourite songs. Just beautiful
@jambomdaman "I inspire the dreams that guide you, baby"...thank heavens I am not in such a crappy relationship. However apparently you are right, according to http://www.davepearce.co.uk/interviews/oceanlab/ - forgive me for not upvoting your answer, and now the song is ruined for me. How I wish DJMega was right - that it's the moon - at least the moon has a right to speak from above. Absentee boyfriend thinks he controls her..."you pray to me"...horrible, pathetic.

Floris De Haan's remix is the only mix for me; i think it emphasizes the energy of the lyrics
the title can be interpreted as someone who watches a loved one from above
i would say it's about an entity of higher density, such as a spirit guide or twin flame, expressing their deep eternal love for their departed one in the physical, who has forgotten everything from the higher realms and simply live their life as any other human being
they express their role as a guide, bringing up the lessons that have to be solved by their counterpart, and helping them accomplish their mission by inspiring them thru their dreams
the physical being never realize their guide's presence, thus their guide's love appears invisible
and while they yet communicate by thoughts, the physical being is unaware of the true origin of the messages, but pray to what the believe in
This song means so much to me, and I think it's absolutely beautiful. When I listen to it, I see ice white, butter yellow, and gossamer blue. It seems arctic to me. I see someone sleeping in an igloo. I know that sounds crazy, but that's what it's like for me.
It's about a girl who has assumed responsibility for the physical/ emotional welfare of a human being. That person is extremely vulnerable and weak and needs her very much.
"And before you sleep at night You pray to me, your lucky star, your singing satellite."
She's that person's caretaker and own personal god. She's the person's satellite because her life revolves around theirs. She figuratively orbits them. I don't know if that's what OceanLab meant at all, but it seems like a pretty metaphor to me. :)
DaeliS, I don’t think this song is “cheaply shrouding” any messages. I like the points you brought up, and it is possible that the satellite is the personification of drugs and addiction. However, I don’t think that if that were the case it would detract from the beauty and depth of the song.
I think you are on the right track. However, I see the person the song is about as an object of desire or past lover that maybe doesn't even know/remember the singer exists. The "satellite" part you spoke of, with her life revolving around his, is genius. I envision a girl who is dwelling on someone, and watching them from a distance, unable to let go. He is praying to his lucky star at night, and she is saying that he will never realize that she is, in fact, his lucky star.

I agree with Sheer all the way. I think the song is in the eyes of someone whose passed away, and singing to someone they were together with before they died.
When I listen to this song it reminds me of my Mum , who has passed away but still watching over me .. it's haunting and beautiful.. brings me to tears
Similar to cresun's interpretation, I feel the meaning of this song revolves around a guardian angel, a spiritual guide, a higher being leading them, however you'd like to think of it. Said being inspires and guides the person, a voice in their head if you will. 'Half a world away' implies this being is of a higher realm, another dimension perhaps. Their influence helps drive the individual and inspires them to do good. This influence could also be interpreted as God leading said person, or, if I may, a more intelligent being telepathically communicating with the person and guiding them to greatness.
I'm not sure what exactly this song means, but it's extremely beautiful. It sounds like a love song, but what does "the pain as light has come to wake you" mean?
@Bodester pain is a darkness that turns to light when we become conscious of it.

Even through the shroud of drugs, there's meaning. I would assume you're the "fool" you were referring to?
I just think it's a cool song, and heartfelt.
I guess it depends on your obsession and view of the world. I've always thought this song was about God or some supernatural entity, some part of the arcanea of the world that's beyond human comperehension. 'Before you sleep at night, you pray to me, your lucky star, your singing sattelite' doesn't sound like it's about drugs to me. And nothing about any of Justina/Oceanlab's songs bring to mind any drug images at all. Admittedly, if I ever do try MDMA, I'll be sure to have thousands of watts ready to back up Oceanlab's work. But that's just because it, well, fits. When played with rave power levels, this music can induce ecstacy in me without any drugs at all. It's powerful positive stuff, to me and my mind. Even now, as I listen to it on cheesy laptop speakers, I feel little twinges of happiness, a lightening of mood, and a extreme desire to program repeat play.
At times I've thought that our bodies and the bit of us that are actually us are completely seperate, and maybe some process relays messages back and forth between them. Astrophysicists have also assured me that we are all made of materials that fused inside the hearts of stars.. so perhaps there's that approach to it as well.
I don't know. I'd like to hear more guesses as to what this song is about, though.
i can agree with you anope...it makes total sence...
