The Reasons Lyrics
How I don't know how to sing
I can barely play this thing
But you never seem to mind
And you tell me to fuck off
When I need somebody to
How you make me laugh so hard
How whole years refuse to stay
Where we told them to, bad dog
Locked up whining in a word
Or a misplaced souvenir
How the past chews on your shoes
And these memories lick my ear
I know you might roll your eyes at this
But I'm so glad that you exist
How we waste our precious time
Marching in the picket lines
That surround those striking hearts
And the time is never now
And we know who we should love
But we're never certain how
I know you might roll your eyes at this
But I'm so glad that you exist
I know you might roll your eyes at this
But I'm so glad that you exist
I know you might roll your eyes at this
But I'm so glad that you exist
I can barely play this thing
But you never seem to mind
And you tell me to fuck off
When I need somebody to
How you make me laugh so hard
How whole years refuse to stay
Where we told them to, bad dog
Locked up whining in a word
Or a misplaced souvenir
How the past chews on your shoes
And these memories lick my ear
But I'm so glad that you exist
Marching in the picket lines
That surround those striking hearts
And the time is never now
And we know who we should love
But we're never certain how
But I'm so glad that you exist
But I'm so glad that you exist
But I'm so glad that you exist

Great song, always makes me think of how two people in a relationship can be so different but complete each others worlds
the dog metaphor is amazing... "How the past chews on your shoes, and these memories lick my ear"... other than that, it is just a good love song i think
what a fucking awesome righteous wicked incredible song.
"how the time is never now, and we know who we should love, but we're never certain how."
rings so, so true.
My best friend had me listen to this song and I fell in love. It always reminds me of him and me. I'll tell him when hes being stupid about something and he'll tell me the same but when it's all said and done, i'm glad he exists.
"How we waste our precious time marching in the picket lines that surround those striking hearts. How the time is never now, and we know who we should love, but we're never certain how."
That pretty much pinpoints my life story. Beautifully written.

wow i never read the lyrics all together, amazingly honest and erudite. the song sort of sums up being young to me, you know? how you look back and suddenly you're way older and things didn't exactly turn out the way you thought they would but it's actually sort of okay. definitely speaks to me--knowing who to love but not how. i heart this band.
amazing.
I know you might roll your eyes at this, but I'm so glad that you exist...
that's one of the most beautiful and suitable lines in a song I've ever heard....always reminds me at my boyfriend and how crazy I go when he tells me this :)
beautiful.
