Where Are You? Lyrics

It's hard to let you go
There's more than what you know
And if you drift away
I'll be there with bells on friend

Maybe it's the show
Lacking all the journey flow
Your message is your rope
So climb to the top, see where you end

It's positions--where I am
The further demand, the fact of expanding
Your body's in my hands

The catch of the day, try running away
Where are you?

It's hard to let you know
To leave regret and make a road
And if you walk away
There's another road to take
Your path is being sold, coincidence is here again

It's far beyond the mind
You've got to let your soul break free
The power's in my hands
Control is up to me

I got the gift and I'm gonna lift you up

When I first heard this song, what really caught my attention was the chorus, and I thought "holy crap! Travis wrote a song about fishing!"

It's positions - where I am the further demand, the fact of expanding your body's in my hands The catch of the day try running away Where are you?

Lines like "The catch of the day, try running away" and "your body's in my hands," really sound like a fishing song.

Then I gave this song a better listen.

I do still believe that song is about fishing, but metaphorically. Think of us humans as the fish and God or a higher power as the fisher. This song is about, to me, coming to "your time" and being caught by the higher power, or "fisher," and brought above:

"You go to let your soul break free"

This is my 500th post...so I better make it a good one. When Travis Meeks write a song, it's always filled a foreboding that's never meant to be overcome. To me, I think every song I've ever heard by Days of the New is filled with perpetual doom. I can't seem to shake that feeling and I hear listen to this tune and I read the lyrics. I think this a song where somebody with a greater talent or worldly experience is telling a youngster that thinks he's the shit that if the youngster continues with his path of choice, it wil lead to doom. I may be looking too deeply into the lyrics, but it seems to me that I might be one of the last hopeful Days of the New fans out there. This is a great song lyrically and musically and so is most of the Red album. This is one of the best songs on the album and I hope they return to their music-making soon.
