Hallelujah/I Know It's Over Lyrics
I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the lord
But you don't really care for music, do you
Well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing hallelujah
Hallelujah
Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the hallelujah
Hallelujah
Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
But love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
Hallelujah
Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do you?
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah
Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
And as I climb into an empty bed - oh well, enough said
I know it's over still I cling, I don't know where else I can go, over and over
Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
See the sea it wants to take me, the knife wants to slit (cut) me
Do you think you can help me?
Sad veiled bride please be happy - handsome groom give her room
Loud loutish lover treat her kindly though she needs you
More than she loves you - and I know it's over - still I cling
I don't know where else I can go - over and over
Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Well, maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
It's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

I think the line is 'I can feel the SOUL falling over my head', thus it is pure genious when the song goes back to 'Hallelujah' with the line, 'Well, amybe there's a god above' as the links with the soul and the Holy Trinity.
Best version of Hallelujah
oh yes definitely. damningly grreat
GAH!! Why haven't I heard this?? It's two of my favourite songs in the world, combined!! :: brain overload :: MUST FIND IT NOW.
rather_shy: shouldn't be hard to find.. it's on mystery white boy. ;) -- and phil_FFF: it really IS "soil". i know it's over is a -fantastic- song by the smiths, from their classic album the queen is dead.

We love Jeff Bucklety and Hallelujah is just the most awesome song ever. We always cry at it, especially when it is played in our favourite ever tv show The O.C. Love Mrs. Seth Cohen and Mrs. Ryan Atwood Ps anyone who says that this song is pants is a complete and utter muppet and obviously has no decent taste.
Interesing combination. I think Buckley does the best Smiths covers, probably because he has the best voice for it.
