Fix what’s wrong, but don’t rewrite what the artist wrote. Stick to the official released version — album booklet, label site, verified lyric video, etc. If you’re guessing, pause and double-check.

Respect the structure

Songs have rhythm. Pages do too. Leave line breaks where they belong. Don’t smash things together or add extra empty space just for looks.

Punctuation counts (but vibe-editing doesn’t)

Correct typos? Yes. Re-punctuating a whole verse because it ‘looks better’? Probably not. Keep capitalization and punctuation close to the official source.

Edit lightly

If two lines are wrong… fix the two lines. No need to bulldoze the whole page. Think ‘surgical,’ not ‘remix.’

It's funny that there's no comments on any James Gang songs. I was just going to say that I think the lyrics to this song were just written as an after thought just to showcase Joe's nice slow guitar leads in this song. It's not fast but kind of a pretty song even though the lyrics I think were just filler. Just my opinion of course. Maybe someone else sees something deeper than that but I've always felt like the lyrics were just filler here.

Typo. At first I thought it sounded a lot like a contract killer, but as the female vocals might suggest, it's probably about a man cheating with a married woman. "I'm the Midnight Man, I do all I can, To make sure that I am The Midnight Man." and "Midnight Man, you're pretty, Midnight Man, you're fine Midnight Man, be careful..." That's my take anyway.

always thought that Joe was just playing around with this tune, sort of like making up a new superhero, The Midnight Man. And the woman that sings the last verse is an imitation of Lois Lane in Superman. Otherwise all he was saying is that, yes, he will be ready for some romantic situations at that hour.
