Harbor Lights Lyrics

Son of a Tokyo Rose
I was bound to wander from home
Stranger to whatever I'd awaken to
Spun the wheel
Took a shot in the dark
One way ticket and a runaway heart
A Sailors dream came true
The night I dreamed of you

Through the neon doorways
Down the stony streets I fell
All hands high side
All eyes a wreck I followed
Sailing shadows reds and blues
Curtains drawn but I saw through
The window to your soul
And I found you

Woah oh oh oh
The harbor lights of Venus
Shining through the breeze
That brings me back
To you my love
To you my love
To you my love
Ooh ooh ooh

My eyes must be betrayin'
But that lonesome jukebox playin'
Somethin' 'bout the harbor lights
Is calling me
Back to some Jamaican bay
Doesn't seem so far away
Keep the change
But I'll repay these memories

Dawn came in this morning
Like some old junked out melody
The words she spoke as we awoke still haunt me
"What you feel too
Won't reveal you
Let me steal you for my life"

Woah oh oh oh
The harbor lights of Venus
Shining through the breeze
That brings me back
To you my love
To you my love
To you my love

Woah oh oh oh
The harbor lights of Venus
Shining through the breeze
That brings me back
Oh to you my love
To you my love
To you my love

Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh

As I become older in age, Reminiscing back on my life, the combination of these lyrics, the melody and the mood just scratches the surface of something within me that just stops time. As though trying to grasp and hold onto fog with bare hands, one can only stand and wait, as the song plays through.

"The window to your soul..." what a beautiful thought. Physical appearance has its limitations, but being able to discover another's soul as beautiful, now there's a beginning of a beautiful relationship.

I just love this song.

@jmjkim Yes I agree. This song I find is so evocative. The long slow intro (starts very softly too) sets the mood. It paints the picture of an eerie harbor dawn and then the story unfolds.Clearly a reflective song of perhaps love lost or regret but a yearning to go back there and relive that moment in time. There is that wondering of 'what may have blossomed", but it seems that perhaps it was curtailed never to be revisited. The musical arrangement obviously plays a big part and the tempo change at the end with the trumpets is...

Oh my... what a wonderful song from a lost gem of an album. From the opening sound of waves to the spirited horn at the conclusion.

What this song means to me, is a vivid memory of being in the United States Navy. I was on board the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and visiting the foreign ports of the Far East was so exotic for me and this song captures the colors of my memories.

Dawn came in this morning Like some old junked out melody The words she spoke as we awoke still haunt me

From the gin mills of Olongapo to the brothels of Pusan, Korea the beautiful women and crazy foods. This song fully encapsulates the experience!

One of Boz’s best ballads and that’s saying something as he has many great ones. The chorus is arresting and just so beautiful. Saw him live last night at 79! He absolutely still has it. This was in Macon and he played a tribute to Duane Allman who was a friend. Class act of a man and amazing songwriter and musician.
