Insolence Lyrics
Sometimes I think I welcome in
what you are frightened of.
My thoughts become undisciplined
And then I slip away.
It is effortless.
Effortless.
In the glow along the barren road
I see you shivering
My heart begins to separate
From the signs that would bury our lives
With an insolence. (Once beats and the light is close, close.)
Insolence.
Effortless ranging and diving. (Once beats and the light is close, close.)
Effortless as fire.
Oh, child.
Where were you?
Where were you all your life?
All your life inside a chrysalis writhing?
And it's real.
It's real.
Joy is real.
One more time.
It's real.
Joy is real.
Joy is real.
One more time.
It's real.
Joy, it's so real.
what you are frightened of.
My thoughts become undisciplined
And then I slip away.
It is effortless.
Effortless.
I see you shivering
My heart begins to separate
From the signs that would bury our lives
With an insolence. (Once beats and the light is close, close.)
Insolence.
Effortless as fire.
Where were you?
Where were you all your life?
All your life inside a chrysalis writhing?
It's real.
Joy is real.
One more time.
It's real.
Joy is real.
Joy is real.
One more time.
It's real.
Joy, it's so real.

The coda quotes Buffy St. Marie's Cod'ine.
I'm pretty sure this is my favorite song off the new album. Shearwater doesn't know how to make a bad album.
The songs seems to be about fighting off an addiction.....he welcomes it in....his thoughts become undisciplined and he slips away...........in the second verse he sees his partner and sees what his addiction is doing to others.......he then questions himself and his life.....and in the last verse he either give up his addiction and finds real joy or falls back into it "one more time" and makes himself believe that the joy he's feeling is real.
