Blank Slate Lyrics

The final stop is the one
The one you can't decide on
The final drop is enough
To make the cup run over

We all just wash away (4x)

Lost in an ocean of men
And all of them are moving
With legs bent over our heads
Below the undertow forever

We all just wash away (8x)

We've come too far not to finish
What are we waiting for?
Don't put too much pressure on those bones
Be aware that they will break
In the tidal wave

We all just wash away (8x)

Cover art for Blank Slate lyrics by Circa Survive

The first verse seems to be telling the listener that if they can't decide on a choice, time will ultimately make the decision will make it for them and the person will always be stagnant. I think, with the lines about the final drop being all that is need to make the cup run over, they are trying to say that life is extremely fragile and it doesn't take much to put things out of balance.

The second verse seems to talk about how it is inevitable that we will all be swept away or burried by history, and many will put pressure on us to do certain things or fulfill their hopes for us, but we cannot allow ourselves to give into such things.

The final verse delves further into what the second verse spoke of. We must try to fulfill our own goals and dreams and not break under the pressure that society puts on those who are different. It then ends, saying that we shouldn't worry about the pressure society puts on us or the fact that history will crush us all, and so we should just enjoy our time while we have it. After all, "we all just wash away."

I really hope this is on the new album.
