Looking Like You Just Woke Up Lyrics
I love to wait
I love girls with ex boyfriends that they aren't really over
And I love New Mexico
I love places I've never been
I love the idea of places I'll never go
So I'm swinging like a fist fight, concrete colored basement alright alright
Let's keep this clean, as clean as you like
And this probably won't get easier, just easier to hide
Prepare for an aching the rest of your life
I'm playing dead, I faked my death
And I'll keep pretending if nothing else for the sake of the tradition
And I am confident even if it makes no sense
I will say I love you back to the love that I am given.
So I'm swinging like a fist fight, concrete colored basement alright alright
Let's keep this clean, as clean as you like
And it probably won't get easier, just easier to hide
Prepare for an aching the rest of your life

The first two lines are sarcasm.
His girlfriend has left him for her ex and now he's given up hope of finding a happy relationship (it's a "place he's never been and will never go").
He'll continue to keep on fighting by dating others, but only "for the sake of the tradition." He has resigned to the fact that he will ever find someone he really loves who will actually love him back. Instead he'll pretend to love any person who can truly love him.
Though this will leave him disappointed and aching for the rest of the live, he'll put up with it and become better at hiding his disappointment and unhappiness.
Not sure. It's a clever song but the lyrics go over my head. I'm thinkin' it could be about living from one day to the next. Just enjoying the differences of each day when you have no plans and just go with the flow. You love who's presented to you and don't worry when they're gone because another one will always come around. You like the streets and the nightlife (concrete basement?). You pretend because it's easier to pretend than to actually feel and gamble that you might get hurt. You say "I love you" without much thought or feeling because it gets you what you what you want/need at that moment. You hide from your own feelings because you can't get hurt that way. And I suppose the life-long aching is for that which you might miss out on...something you'll never have because of the way you choose to live your life. Never heard of these gusy (girls?) but this song (lyrically) is rather impressive.
