Indifference Lyrics

Your pretending fooled us all
Optimistic delusional
Hyperactive and so it shows
It's time to measure the immeasurable

Our indifference grows
From the common evil known

The future's laid out beautiful
Designs suggesting hints to God
I'd like to fathom the unfathomable
And swear to find that certain pressure point

Our indifference grows
From the common evil known
Held down by words

To me the song sounds like someone who is moving on. "The future's laid out beautiful," "Our indifference grows," the person in the song could be losing a friend or a relationship and they are moving on from that. Well that's what I think it means.

My Interpretation

I'm not religious but I can see a possible religious interpretation. Maybe the first verse is saying how some religious people are too zealous about something they can't even comprehend. Then the second verse is saying how this person wishes he/she could comprehend that "incomprehensible something." This is sort of reminiscent of Roswell's Spell in my opinion. For example, Pete sings "Does anybody really see anything? Does anybody really see anyone?" So, in this song, he/she has just grown indifferent about the subject of religion and the possibility of a deity since no one really knows.
