Same Old Trip Lyrics
Censor, censor, realize
Censor, censor, no friend of mine
Time won't keep us anymore
It's the usefullness of letting go
Your perfect plan has come and gone
Like the nuclear centuries' benefits
They say
You bought the same old trip
So innocent you're out of reach
You bought the same old trip
Lawful, vengeful, awful, friendship, misfits
Bits of feelings, thieving, fits inside revealing
Time to censor, censor, realize
Censor, censor, no friend of mine
You bought the same old trip
So innocent you're out of reach (we don't mind the scope)
You bought the same old trip
Sigh of relief inside of a dream (we all lie)
You bought the same old
Censor, censor, realize
Censor, censor, paid to
Censor, censor, realize
Censor, censor, no friend of mine
Censor, censor, no friend of mine
It's the usefullness of letting go
Your perfect plan has come and gone
Like the nuclear centuries' benefits
You bought the same old trip
So innocent you're out of reach
You bought the same old trip
Bits of feelings, thieving, fits inside revealing
Time to censor, censor, realize
Censor, censor, no friend of mine
So innocent you're out of reach (we don't mind the scope)
You bought the same old trip
Sigh of relief inside of a dream (we all lie)
You bought the same old
Censor, censor, paid to
Censor, censor, realize
Censor, censor, no friend of mine

♦it's about rising up against corruption and injustice while dealing with the constant suppression and censorship of the ideas you're trying to spread.
-"you bought the same old trip" - calling out the lobbyist/politician/corporate scumbag for choosing the corrupt lifestyle we have seen so many times before
-"you're perfect plan has come and gone" - we see through your lies
-"so innocent you're out of reach" - (sarcasm) these bigshots think their untouchable because they have friends in high places
-"time won't keep us anymore, it's the usefulness of letting go" - the people are tired of being held down, time to rise up
-so what if they got a nice smile and say happy things "you're no friend of mine"
-"sigh of relief inside of a dream" - politicians make big promises, BUT "we (they) all lie"
-"censor, censor" - be quiet little slave
I too was under the impression that this song had a person as the subject matter until, I heard it for probably the 300th time in my 4Runner on my way to work, having just taken my methadone I came to the realization that is exactly what this song is about. The "censorship" of a substance that buries reality which is the "Same old trip" being bought. When you are in the initial phase of any self-destructive activity you are "innocent" in your own mind and out of reach of thoughts of change. From lawful to vengeful to a thief...

The "censorship" of a substance that buries reality which is the "Same old trip" being bought. When you are in the initial phase of any self-destructive activity you are "innocent" in your own mind and out of reach of thoughts of change. From lawful to vengeful to a thief you become until you realize that you are engaged to "no friend of mine", but find yourself already on the trip. I realize that all great songs, especially metal-rock songs are subject to ones personal perspective, but I found that often songs are written about an inner demon or struggle, sometimes it can be a struggle with another person but still the inner refection is the true subject
I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed right now. I have always loved this song ——- and this who entire album, but for the very first time after listening to this track probably at least 300 times (yes, just like the person who replied to the only other comment——-that’s where I got the number 300 from——- but it’s probably true for me also).
The actual lyrics are different from what I always thought they were. I never really knew what he was saying to be honest. But what I thought I was hearing was a whole lot different than what is listed.
First off, every single one of the background singers lyrics (shown in parentheses) all seem rather lame in my opinion. They don’t match the overall feel of this song at all in my opinion.
And …… a few other things I’ll mention:
-I’m not hearing “you bought the same old trip”. That’s BS I think. I hear him saying “You’re on the same old trip. So —-say you’re on a rage. You’re on the same old trip”. This is what I’ve been hearing since first listened to this cd, not long after it first came out. I can’t make out exactly what he says in between, but it sounds like “So in a say you’re on a rage” ——- and of course this makes no sense. But it makes perfect sense to me after 300 listens. It doesn’t have to make sense. It just sounds like what he’s saying. That’s all.
-Then, when he apparently says “Lawful, vengeful, awful…” I have always heard him say “My phone rings for, my phone, friendship, misfits, a piss off, feelings …… and then a lot of gobbledygook more or less. But like I said after all this time, those lyrics don’t need to make sense to me. Granted, I can’t really sing along with this. But the music makes up for that. The music on this song (and pretty much every song on this cd) blows almost everything I’ve ever heard from this genre out of the water. Only Chevelle themselves have the songs from this cd beat, with songs they recorded and released on their previous albums prior to this one.
