Piñata Lyrics

Well hell if I
Should decide
To give in more
A little effort
Well hell if I'm
Tempted again
One little fight
Replaced by lust for you

I'll ask my curious side
To follow you
To a bed of angels
Can't help this wandering eye
Well lucky you
The devil made you look

I've never tried
Pulling you in
Lucky at last
Defending answers
Its almost like
You're breaking my pinata
While I'm hinting at my lust for you

I'll ask my curious side
To follow you
To a bed of angels
Can't help this wandering eye
Well lucky you
The devil made you look
Too far into the abyss
No bed of angels
Mystified defines it best
The devil made you look

So I'll ask my curious side
To follow you
To a bed of angels
Can't help this wandering eye
Well lucky you
The devil made you look
Too far into the abyss
No bed of angels
Mystified defines it best
The devil made you look

Best on the album for me. Gives me chills every time i listen. Love the contrast between the chilled out chorus and the fast-paced verses. Beautiful.

I believe that this song is about a significant other cheating maybe. He's saying that he may sometimes lust for other girls, but he has so must lust/love for his sig.other that he could never cheat. She pulls him back in. However, his sig. other cheated on him (devil made you look).

My Interpretation

"The story behind "Piñata" is actually pretty funny. Pete wrote the lyrics based on the idea of walking through the mall, checking out girls and being called out for it. It's a tongue and cheek thing. We actually made a t-shirt that says "The devil made me look," which was inspired by a lyric in that song." - Sam Loeffler.

Song Meaning

I think I read too that it's about Pete's woman getting pissed because Pete was checking out young hotties at the mall. "you're breaking my pinata, while i'm hinting at my lust for you" means she is still the beneficiary of the hotties and his "wandering eye", so she shouldn't get pissed.

could this be the first ever Chevelle song to be about sex? It sure sounds like it, but there's probably some metaphor that i'm not grasping.

Here are the correct lyrics as they appear in the album booklet:

Well hell if I Should decide To give it more A little effort

Well hell if I'm Tempted again One little fight Replace by lust for you

I'll ask my curious side to follow you To a bed of angels Can't help this wandering eye Well lucky you The devil made ya (look)

Well I've never tried Pulling you in Lucky at last Defending answers It's almost like You're breaking my piñata while I'm hinting At my lust for you

I'll ask my curious side to follow you To a bed of angels Can't help this wandering eye Well lucky you The devil made ya look too far to the abyss No bed of angels, mystified defines it best The devil made ya look

Lyric Correction

Forgot the last part, if it matters.

So I'll ask my curious side to follow you To a bed of angels Can't help this wandering eye Well lucky you The devil made ya look too far to the abyss No bed of angels, mystified defines it best The devil made ya look

Thanks. These are what I could hear before the lyrics were released to us. I will fix.

a guy is infatuated with a girl, but she doesn't notice. he sorta stalks her for awhile, then musters up the courage to approach her and try to get to know her but she basically ignores him (it's almost like your breaking my pinata - metaphor for heart). afterwords he's kinda shell-shocked (mystified) by the rejection and that she's not the angel he thought she was.

My Interpretation

Just saw them play today in Sacramento, Pete explicitly said this song is about sex.

Cover art for Piñata lyrics by Chevelle

This may sound out there but I always liked to think of this song as being about suicide bombers. "Bed of angels" being the main pull for that, But I could see the sex reference, definitely plausible. I like it when the meaning is open to the listener, but when the artist specifies it puts all opinions to rest. Rock On Pete!

My Interpretation

Song talks about blind devotion to someone/idea that the target doesn't believe in. The singer is more devoted than the person the singer is talking to.
