I have listened to Nickelback for a couple of years and I didn't like this song. But now I understand (or sort of understand). I have a friend and I love him very much and I'm trying not to feel that way about him but it only hurts more and more. It's almost unbearable. But I see this song has sort of a happy ending:)

It's about a man who tries to forget his ex-girlfriend, but he discovers that forgetting about her is pointless because it only makes him love her more.

The lyrics certainly suggest that it's about a partner who is trying to forget an ex but no matter what they do, what they say, where they go, etc., they're always reminded of this person and it only makes them want that person back even more, even if the other doesn't. The person wants to give it another crack and will go to extreme lengths to do so, but the other is not as confident and is reluctant to get involved once more.

And it's another quality Nickelback song, too.
