I highly doubt the song was created for a message, but I'll interpret these lyrics anyways.

I believe it is from a monster's perspective while telling a child that he need not fear him because of his appearance, and that they are both the same because on the inside he's a coward too.

I agree with Arigostlyon, but if you only look at the lyrics like in an acoustic cover it could have any meaning. I like to think it's about people in relationships, people who don't try enough

This reminds me of a dream I had not too long ago. There was this just hideously ugly creature that was extremely helpful and "it" and the villagers in the dream kept referring to a "monster"-I thought they meant "it",but in case in point they did not-they meant me-I looked at myself and I was terrifying. Sorry t.m.i.

It was, because it was very real.

Relax though, looking horrible in a dream is actually normal and really tends to not mean anything.

I think that The Monster is the good guy, and the kid is afraid of him, but he's saying not to be afraid because he is just like the kid, but the Sprites are trying to kill the boy, but acting like they wanna help. they here what the monster says, and repeat it to the boy, because the boy can only here them, and then the song ends, when the sprites kill the boy.

fairies and sprites are similar, and in the old days fairies tricked people into doing what they wanted.

It's 'Pocket hands, I'm a coward too.' The lyric comes from the song Bells under his work as Sonny.

As far as the lyrics go, and despite the fact that he sings the part at the end pretty much just like the way he sings 'Pocket hands' in Bells under his work as Sunny Moore, I believe that he is actually saying 'poltergeist'. So that would be: Poltergeist... I'm a coward too You don't need to hide, my friend For I'm just like you The word poltergeist fits pretty much better in the song since in folklore and parapsychology, a poltergeist is a type of ghost or other supernatural being supposedly responsible for physical disturbances such as loud noises and objects moved around or...

I think the song is based on a sprite that is afraid of everything given the reason that they keep hiding and hiding from a "scary monster" or another sprite that looks different and is an outcast that is trying to help him/her overcome their fear.

Let's not forget what we hear when we hear it backwards. Many of the lyrics are only heard when played backwards. Here is what I hear when It's played backwards:

I'm just like you You don't need to I'm just like you

OH NO WHO'S THERE

I'm just like you You don't need Just like you

Basically what everyone's saying about the monster and the boy. The backwards lyrics points to it being "hidden" lyrics. The Monster is a coward so it "hides." The hidden lyrics referring to exactly that. Hidden.

I think that despite the reputation this song's got, that it's packed with emotion and soul. The song is about someone who is depressed, their mind is messed up, and their life crumbling away. In this case, he's a homosexual man, and hates himself because of it. The opening lyrics is someone trying to help him, trying to tell him that it's okay, he's just like him; but because of who he believes he is, he doesn't listen, and everything sounds jumbled and corrupted. The drop to my what he is feeling. That guttural grotesqueness symbolises how he's represented. When the words are finally decipherable, the man understands that he's had someone there all along, as now he can hear him. I won't end this with an "and they all lived happily ever after" haha. ;)

Love the point at which there is a shift in tempo preceded by “Oh my God in a highly exaggerated falsetto

he's probably trying to summon a demon, and it won't reveal itself to him, and he's telling it not to be afraid, and he's just like the demon...
