Just to add my two-bits, so there's somewhat some theory of the song and its meaning; its kinda just another great Skrillex song to be blunt. But if you watch the music video, THEN the song REALLY shines.

Pertaining to the music video for the song; its about a pedophile sitting in a park, eyeballing a young girl. He follows her down an alleyway and into an underground parking garage(or something of the sort). The little girl turns around as he approaches her. After dialing a number into the phone she screams "Call 911 now!", and then she starts torturing the pedophile telekinetically. At which point, the tables are turned and now the predator becomes the prey. The "pedophile" grabs the phone and yells "Call 911 now!". After which, the girl summons a demon and telekinetically tortures the pedophile some more. Presumed dead, the little girl adds another tally to a large group of tallys on her wall, giving away a clue to the now-obvious title for the song.

As the title says "The First of the Year", it is suggestive that this took place in the early months of the year, and a pedophile is trying to commit the sin that makes him what he is for the FIRST TIME THIS YEAR. The little girl was going to be his "First of the Year". When she kills him, she chalks up one more dead pedophile for the year. Make sense? Badass artist. Badass video. Badass song.

    Song Meaning

    Maybe this look weird.

One day, there is a child molester, which is sitting in a bench, watching all children play in a park. Then, the scene cuts to a young girl which is skipping to a warehous, as the child molester follow her. The child molester get to the warehouse, and walking watching as the girl dialing a phone. The young girl shouted, "CALL 911 NOW!!" and drops the phone and then attacking the child molester with her hands, telekinetically. After a few attacks, the child molester dreams, looking the dolls and later a hand dragged him. He waked up, dialing with his cellphone. After all failed attempts, he shouted, "CALL 911 NOW!!". A Slenderman-like creature appeared behind the young girl. The creature controlled the young girl as she attacked the child molester until death.

The young girl, after attacking the child molester, presumed dead, is seen chalking one last line. There were too many lines, as the story says they were the victims of the young girl.

I did say Slenderman-like creature because it looked like the Slender Man, a creepypasta.

It's a lead single for Skrillex's third EP, More Monsters and Sprites.

There's also many versions of Goat Remixes about this song.

are you sure the 'little girl' isn't just a manifestation of the demon in our world? the demon using a loophole to do what it does best, terrorizing and killing it's victims. killing pedophiles won't draw too much attention or animosity from either it's realm or ours.

as for how this works into the song... maybe the pleasant sounding notes are the pedophile while the more erratic harder ones are of the demon.

    just my take on it.

Guys. I have an actual story I would like your opinions on if you see this. When I was the same age as that girl I saw the creature behind her in my pantry. I swear upon my life, I looked up into a dark closet/pantry and seen two huge glowing white eyes. Then I stood there in awe and had no fear, it reached out and touched my forehead. My first memory I can remember ever, is that one and I also remember my mom grabbing my hand, taking me into the living room as if I had arrived for the first time or at least how I felt because it was as if I had never seen the living room before and i didnt recognize it. I eventually stopped talking about it and forgot over the years AND THEN IT HAPPENED.. At the age of 19 I went to my first rave (showtek in AZ) I received my first glove light show ever while fucked up on e (which I had never done before and didn't after that lol) the light show made me have an out of body experience, I shit you not!! during the light show I remembered that I had seen that as a kid for whatever reason.. After the light show I had to gather myself for a moment. I had a long walk back to my dorm and had time to call my mom to make sure I had seen that for sure and she assured me that i didnt shut up about seeing the creature for about 3 years.

What is your opinion about all if this. I am very confused. Btw I am a sane 25 yr old college guy that is now 6 years into gloving and I am pretty intense with my light shows because after my first light show and that euphoric experience I decided to master the art. I have links if you're interested. Also note that the little girl in the video made hand movements ..my life is strange. What do I do?

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
