In a video I watched of them performing this song Leighton says "This was a song that was kind of half written in Arizona half written in California. I moved to California about a year ago and this is probably the first song I finished off of the brand new record (Paint it Golden) that we put out and I guess its kind of written about relationships that I had in Arizona and then in California as well and so its kind of a mash-up of the whole last year of my life"
