Deform To Form A Star Lyrics

Oh once in a while
I learn how to smile
Horse's shadows and rain on stone

No God here i'm sure
This must be the cure
For all this carrion and aimless drift

Retreat from the begging
And invites to the wedding
Revelation means nothing here

In time we forget our
Need to devour
All the stories of tortured souls

Crawl into your arms
Become the night forever
Coiled and close, the moment froze
Deform to form a star
Here on earth together
I got time to share and a well-used stare

This smile isn't pure
Certain or sure
Cold precision was never there

The way we uncoil
Return to the soil
Flaws are everything and chaos reigns

I agree, this song is absolutely beautilful.

I think it's a great analogy between stars and relationships. When a star is diying the blown-off outer layers include elements which may be recycled during new star formation.

In some ponit we all feel a kind of disenchantment of the world and we put all our hopes in someone else, in what we think love can do for us. So, when we start a relationship we die a little to create something that we thought could be beautiful.

I always think of this song as turmoil. more closely geared towards personal relationships. I view the chorus as kind of "Re connecting" with a comfort. It's always assuring to know you can go through a emotional crisis and hell.

From personal experiences in the past. It's a reminder to me that somebody out there always cares. You never know who does... especially strong enough. Usually good ones can tell :) and you just need a hug and good time to get through it :)

For me is like the description of humanity in front of oblivion, a neutrons star comming straight down to the Earth and how the final seconds of life on this planet, as it happens, chaos and doom reing in the entire world... beyond of that, the song ends with the contemplation of a new world ready to grow...

My Opinion

A few random thoughts on this beautiful song. For me this quote adds some context:

"The cosmos is within us. We are made of star stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself." Carl Sagan

We are alive for a brief time, in a wonderful coincidence of order, an arrangement of atoms... once we die our molecules dissociate... we return to the soil...

Ultimately the destruction of the planet by our aging sun will redistribute all our parts throughout the vast night. Some of those atoms may end up coalescing, in time, and potentially forming another star. As has happened countless times over billions of years. As Carl wrote, every atom comprising us and all we see was formed within a star.

To me this song is about appreciating the moment, being alive in an unknowning, uncaring universe, seeing the beauty, and accepting that eventually all our constituent star stuff will return to where it came from.

I think it would make a great funeral song. It's a lovely piece of music too.
