Dragging Your Feet In The Mud Lyrics

You're dragging your feet in the mud
So your shoes are stained with blood
I wonder, when will she get here?
One by one they will fall
But you grind your teeth 'til they're raw
I wonder, does it get any better?

We'll be up in the desert
Wearing these proud new sunburns
We're on our own time now
Don't you ever look back down

She's nowhere to be found
I'm pulling my hair out my scalp
When I realize
Who would have thought I'd
Sing one song for this girl
Wherever she is in this world
Hope she'll realize
Now or the next life

We'll be up in the desert
Wearing these proud new sunburns
We're on our own time now
Don't you ever look back down

We'll be up in the desert
Wearing proud these sunburns
We're on our own time now
Don't you dare look back down

Yeah, don't ever say you haven't
Thinking like that can be tragic
So let me take it from the start
And how you fell apart
Yeah how it all went from "perfect"
To "throw it all and let's burn it"
So take what you need
I'm going back to those palm trees

Yeah I guess I finally feel like I deserved it
You know I gotta make a point, I gotta make it worth it
'cause if it happened, it happened, you know?
You can't change that
That shit'll eat you alive
Gotta let it go, yeah

We'll be up in the desert
Wearing proud these sunburns
We're on our time
Don't you dare
Don't you dare

We'll be up in the desert
Wearing these proud new sunburns
We're on our own time now
Don't you ever look back down

We'll be up in the desert
Wearing proud these sunburns
We're on our own time now
Don't you dare look back down

PrettyToy712 - Thank you! I agree 100% with everything you said. I think people are crazy to say this sounds like a B-side from The Cinema. Only because it doesn't sound exactly like Illuminate. But why should it? Only terrible bands release the same album over and over. And Mindy definitely did not make Lydia. She was around for ONE out of their now four releases.

That being said, I'm in love with this song. I think it's beautiful and a great progression from Illuminate and Assailants. I also agree that this song is about closure. I'm thinking the first song, "Hailey" will be one more 'This December...' type of song then this one is about closure. But who knows? Maybe it's just a song. So excited to hear the entire album!

I agree. That's the sad thing about some people who are fans of a band. When the band releases an album that becomes the sort of fan-selected "best album" from them, then that's all some fans want to hear. Screw progression and trying different things, all they want is another 10 albums that sound like Illuminate...I hate when people act like that. I've also seen several people talking about how they feel like Assailants sounded "half-done" or just not executed as well as it could have been, but I don't understand that either. I thought Assailants was a great album....

I'm pretty sure that all of these lyrics are correct. The only line I'm unsure about is where Leighton says "Don't ever say you..." he could either say "haven't" like I put, or he could say "have it"...it's hard to tell. Everything else is pretty much correct, I think. I used an audio program to isolate the vocals from the music so that the vocals would stand out more and I'm pretty confident in everything else.

I think you've done the lyrics correctly, kudos.

Firstly, Leighton is incredible! To go from My Blood Is Full Of Airplanes and then release something like this! Both are incredibly different styles and yet his voice compliments both of them so well. Definitely one of the most underrated musicians!

This, to me, seems like he's in love with this girl and they had plans to be together yet all of a sudden she's gotten cold feet and left him behind. He's trying to manage in his life thinking that she will come back to him but he's struggling every day that she's gone. They were "perfect" until she ran away and now he's afraid to let it go because he feels that she will realise she made a mistake and come back to him.

Could be taking the from personal experience and may be completely wrong.

I agree. I don't understand how some people have said that this new Lydia song "doesn't sound like Lydia" and that it sounds more like the Cinema...I don't hear it at all...this doesn't sound like the Cinema at all to me...and I don't know what they're talking about when they say this doesn't sound like Lydia...what exactly is Lydia supposed to sound like? o.O lol...I'm pretty sure it sounds however Leighton wants it to sound. There were bound to be people disappointed with old members leaving the band...but people like Mindy didn't MAKE Lydia...Leighton himself has said that he has always done 80% of the music-writing and everything anyway.

In my opinion (obviously I may be extremely wrong as well lol) since this is the second track off of the album, following the song "Hailey", I think that this might be a sort of closure from the songs that have been on the previous Lydia albums. I agree with what some people have said about this new song being "happy" and I think that's a good thing...sounds like Leighton is at a point where he has learned to accept that there are things that you can't change, no matter how much you want to...it sounds like he has become content with leaving things in the past that he can't do anything about. I think it's a good change from what has been on the past 2 full-lengths...artists should always continue to grow and evolve, and that's what I think we'll hear on this new album...can't wait to hear the whole album.

Just my thoughts on this song. I feel like it's about Hailey. In the music video I've Never Seen A Witch you see that Hailey cheated on him. In this song he's forgiven her and he's waiting for her to forgive herself.

'You're dragging your feet in the mud' Being depressed...

'So your shoes are stained with blood' Your filled with regrets. Caught red handed.

'I wonder, when will she get here?' When will she forget about it and move on

'One by one they will fall' one by one the bad things that happend wont matter anymore

'But you grind your teeth 'til they're raw' but for now you upset and depressed about things as well as stressed.

I wonder, does it get any better?

'We'll be up in the desert Wearing these proud new sunburns' once she is over it they will both be proud of the things they've overcome.

'We're on our own time now' but it has to be done on their own time and no one can rush the scars that need healed.

'Don't you ever look back down' once they are over it, there is no reason to look back down that path they have crossed.

'She's nowhere to be found I'm pulling my hair out my scalp' He's waiting for her to get over it...and maybe feels that she's had enough time

"When I realize Who would have thought I'd Sing one song for this girl" People wonder why he cares so much about this girl that hurt him. Why would he keep singing about someone who cheated on him?

Wherever she is in this world Hope she'll realize Now or the next life' He hopes that she knows he's over it

I think the other lines are pretty simple to translate and put into context

My Interpretation

@mxpmgs18 perfect, dude. just perfect.
