Chewing the Stitch Lyrics

Oh my God, I can feel something moving
The air is still growing thick but it's soothing
I've done nothing to merit forgiving
But if the chance should arise and you hear me

Make my voice be the proof that they need
That light beams from even the tongues unseen

I've never felt so alive
The wind is ushering a change and
I can't believe I'm alive
After attempts to feed the pain

You are the new
Sign of proof
A calloused heart can still be reached
So stand and believe that it's true
You hold the voice to change the sea

All the tearing of my skin starts deserting
All the guilt and the shame of the games I played
Deaf to my heart starts to fade

Now I will speak for everyone of us
The rebel dogs who rejected love
Chew the stiches until you taste the blood
Or find so much more when you give it up
Give it up
Give it up
Give it up

We are monsters on our own (we are monsters on our own)
But banded together we'll overcome (banded together we'll overcome)
We are monsters on our own (we are monsters on our own)
But banded together we'll overcome (banded together we'll overcome)

Now that I've found you

I've never felt so alive
The wind is ushering a change and
I can't believe I'm alive
After attempts to feed the pain

You are the new
Sign of proof
A calloused heart can still be reached.
So stand and believe that it's true
You hold the voice to change the sea

Don't expect us to apologize
For being true to ourselves in the spot light
We want no true
No truce or compromise

From the lyric book, it's "Make my voice be the proof that they need, that light beams from even the tongues unseen. "I've never felt so alive. The wind is ushering a change and I can't believe I'm alive After my attempts to feed the pain. 'You are the new sign of proof a calloused heart can still be reached. Stand and believe it's true. You hold the voice to change the sea.' All the tearing of my skin starts deserting, All the guilt and the shame of the games I played deaf to my heart starts to fade. Now I will speak for everyone of us, the rebel dogs who rejected love. Chew the stiches until you taste the blood, or find so much more when you give it up. Give it up (x3). We are monsters on our own, but banned together we'll overcome. Now that I've found you, I've never felt so alive. Don't expect us to apologize for being true to ourselves in the spot light. We want no true, no truce or compromise."

Sorry that I didn't break it up into lines, my keyboard is messed up.

So I think this song is the girl (now discovering her faith) feels the gaze of God upon her after she has killed her father. At least, that's what half the song is about. The other half, I think is the girl preaching to the others who have discovered their faith about how they don't need to be like the rest of the world and live in chaos.

Just my two cents.

I think this song is basically Elijah's prayer. It is about a Christian who is asking God to use him to preach the Gospel. He is asking God to use the example of how much he has been changed to show that God is real and does have a lasting effect. As for the main line "chew the stitches until you taste the blood" my interpretation is we use sinful and wordly things to fill the void within ourselves and "chew the stitches" is referring to getting rid of those until you reach God's love, "the blood. In the chorus, when he says, "I can't believe I'm alive after my attempts to feed the pain." I believe he is referring to depression. The bridge is fairly obvious, as he is just stating that we are monsters, but working as a group we are stronger and more resistant. When the chorus says "You are the new sign of proof a calloused heart can still be reached" I believe that is supposed to be another person (or God) saying that his life is proof in God itself because how much he has overcome. At the end, he declares that him and the other saved "rebel dogs" will fight against the World until their deaths and will give no compromise. This is my favorite song and this is my take on it :)
