Meet Me At The Corner Lyrics

Please don’t ask me who
Who you think I am
I could live without that
I’m just a modest man

Meet me at the corner
And tell me what to do
‘Cause I’m messed up on you
And had I known
All that I do now
I’m guessing we’re thru now
Receding into the forest
I will lay around in wait
And I’ll wait for you

Please don’t ask me where
Where you think I’ve been
I’ve been a lot of places
But this could be my win

I feel so bad
I thought you’d wanna know
Something I want to show
I thought you ought to know

Please don’t say you want
To keep in touch out there
To see you on the corner
Well that I just can’t bear

Hey and I turn
I turn my head when I thought
I saw a sign
From the gods
A sign from the gods
That you weren’t meant to be mine
And it’s fine

Takin’ it all for a ride
Until the day when it’s gone
Mystified by where
It all went wrong
When it’s gone

I live and I learn
And I lose and I win
But it’s better than ever
Whenever I’m in
I thank you girl
For everywhere that we’ve been

To me it sounds like he no longer wants to meet his drug dealer on the corner. The cd booklet doesn't include the 'and oh' or 'Endo' or whatever he is saying after 'Meet Me at the Corner.' He feels like shit meeting his dealer and doing drugs until he turns his head and sees a sign from the gods. You can hear the positive swing of the song near the end, finished off with a happy little outro.

Excellent song.

I really don't see it as an allusion to drugs, I think it's pretty simple, just about breaking up a relationship. Been there a few days ago, so I'm pretty sure about it, heheh, but hey, fuck it.

I love the guitars and drums in this song, and it's pretty interesting how they keep a sad mood all along the song, until, at the very end, they "cheer it up" a bit when the main character says he's happier and thankful about everything.

Top 2 on the new record for me (tied with Goodbye Hooray).

LOL. The multiple screen names have made my head spin. Get some sleep. You must be exhausted. Goodnight.

Sorry? I really didn't get it!

And I don't know how, but you guessed it just right: I AM really exhausted and need some sleep, heheh! Good night.

Here's the fixed lyrics:

Please don't ask me who- Oh, who you think I am I could live without that I'm just a modest man

Meet me at the corner, and oh Tell me what to do 'cause I messed up on you And had I known, oh, that I do now... I'm guessing we're through now Receding into the forest, I will lay around and wait And I'll wait for you

Please don't ask me where- Oh, where you think I've been I've been a lot of places But this could be my whim

Meet me at the corner, would I Tell me what to do 'Cause I messed up on you And had I known, oh, that I do now I'm guessing we're through now Receding into the forest, I will lay around and wait And I'll wait for you

I feel so bad, I thought you oughta know And I feel so bad, I thought you oughta know Something I wanna show I thought you oughta know

Please don't say you want To keep in touch out there To see you on the corner Aw, that I just can't bear

Well, meet me at the corner and you'll Tell me what to do 'Cause I messed up on you And had I known, oh, that I do now I'm guessing we're through now Receding into the forest, I will lay around and wait

Hey, and I turned I turned my head when I thought I saw a sign from the gods A sign from the gods That you weren't meant to be mine And it's fine Taking it all for a ride Till the day when it's gone I mystified my way and it all went wrong When it's gone, I live and I love, and I lose and I win But it's better than ever, whenever I'm in Thank you, girl, for everywhere that I've been

And had I known, oh, that I do now...

Actually...

And had I known all that I do now...

This song is amazing, especially Klinghoffer's little bit. It's clearly about going through a breakup and having a hard time getting over it. Been there. The last verse explains how he's fine with it and he is thanking her for the experience. Good song and great message for those who love too much.

Thanks. And I'm on the same boat. It's tough having to part with someone who was a huge part of your life. I can't imagine how many times Anthony has had to deal with that...

Mostly right, but there's some minor differences in the lyric booklet.

"'Cause I'm messed up on you And had I known All that I do now"

"I've been a lot of places But this could be my win"

"I feel so bad I thought you'd wanna know"

"Mystified by where It all went wrong"

"I live and I learn And I lose and I win"

"I thank you girl For everywhere that we've been"

Best song on the new album by a country mile for me. Has everything that I think of when I think of the Chili Peppers. Great vocal harmonies, catchy guitar riff, and an all round catchy song. Like the other comments, I think it's about the loss of someone in your life, like breaking up with someone.

Any one else get the feeling AK may have relapsed around Stadium Arcadium, and this is a good old coming-off-drugs song? It would explain their many dodgy performances, and possibly even helping towards JF leaving (after his experiences in the 90s, I can't imagine he'd've been too receptive to that kinda stuff.

Firstly, let me say I'm a huge RHCP fan and a huge AK fan as well and my own opinion pains me to express. Now, I agree with the bulk of these comments being that this song is more than likely about the terrible and completely self-disappointed feeling an addict has when he or she realizes they are about to relapse and are past the point of no return. Hence the sorrowful mood the song holds until the last section.

But as for happier sounding ending part of the song when it seems that the speaker has resisted the urge to buy more drugs, think about this, maybe he didn't resist buying the heroine...maybe he just did the heroine...and THAT is the sign from the gods...

It could be about John leaving the band again, maybe Anthony relapsed and it ruined their friendship?
