Dark Side Lyrics
There's a place that i know
it's not pretty there and few have ever gone
if i show it to you now
will it make you run away
or will you stay
even if it hurts
even if i try to push you out
will you return?
and remind me who i really am
please remind me who i really am
everybody's got a dark side
do you love me?
can you love mine?
nobody's a picture perfect
but we're worth it
you know that we're worth it
will you love me?
even with my dark side?
like a diamond
from black dust
it's hard to know
it can become
a few give up
so don't give up on me
please remind me who i really am
everybody's got a dark side
do you love me?
can you love mine?
nobody's a picture perfect
but we're worth it
you know that we're worth it
will you love me?
even with my dark side?
don't run away
don't run away
just tell me that you will stay
promise me you will stay
don't run away
don't run away
just promise me you will stay
promise me you will stay
will you love me? ohh
everybody's got a dark side
do you love me?

Nobody has anything to say bout this song? I like the way she sings it-she's not wailing or belting. I love the message. "Warts in all" terminolgy. ;)
To me the song is about someone sufferring with a personality disorder. They show the person they love a mask, believing that is what you want to love.

Instead borderlines have such insecurities, they feel they aren't worthy of love, so 'they try to push you out' to see if you love them.

They feel if they drop their mask, you won't like what you see.

The stupidity of the situation is that if they didn't act in the way they did, you'd stay with them forever.

It is so hard for them to face their problems, probably 20 times harder than stopping smoking, they don't show people 'the place they know' because they believe 'it's not pretty there' and no-one can therefore help.
Daft thing is, it's probably the opposite. Unless you've been in a relationship with a borderline, you've no idea of the problems and if they'd only be themselves!
Any one feeling they relate to these lyrics, please get help, whether you are the borderline or their partner. Too many lives are wrecked by ignorance to this 'illness'.
Wow! I don't know whether to be flattered that you would take the time and give such a well spoken and thought out reply to me,or ready to tell you to fuck off as it has nothing to do with me and replied to me.

Couldn't agree with you more. The first time I heard this song I came to this sight to see if anyone thought this song was about borderlines, and found your response. I'm not a borderline, but I've been with one for 16 years now and it can be so much hell! Get them help if you can convince them to, but if not, get some help for yourself in dealing with the borderline disorder. It gets crazy one the sane one is taking antidepressants just to be able to live with the crazy one who...

i don't even like kelly clarkson, but when i heard this song. i stopped in my tracks. i completely agree with you. i have bpd. and what you wrote really hit home for me. it is a heart wrenching place to be, on the border of hell and heaven. you have no control of the chaos surrounding you/inside of you internally and externally.

I'm sorry, maybe this does relate to borderlines, but thats not the only people it relates to. Anyone can feel like this sometimes, and I can pretty much, without a doubt, guarantee that anyone in a relationship will feel like either side of this song at some point in said relationship.

Well, I don't think this song is about personality disorder or mental illness. I think it's just about the common flaws everybody have. She says ''Everybody's got a dark side''. Well, not everyone is mentally ill! But everyone has some flaws. Like she said ''Nobody's a picture perfect.''! Everybody has their own flaws which they want to hide. They fear rejection from the ones they love due to those flaws.
I like this song. It's a lot more emotional than a lot of her recent songs. To me it seems kind of haunting but in a good way. It's one of those songs that gives me goosebumps and really makes you think about it.
if u change dark side to "backside" it sounds so lol
To me this song is about mental illnesses. People with mental illnesses keep it hidden as much as possible from the outside world; it's their "dark side".
Getting close to someone can be difficult and "If I show it to you now will it make you run away?" describes exactly how it feels when you're undecided whether you feel like you can show someone.
"Will you stay, even if it hurts, even if I try to push you out, will you return" For me describes when you've told someone and you warn them that when you get into a bad way, you are likely to push them away and it's for their own good. You don't want them to go through what you do so its for their own good that you push them out, but it makes you wonder whether if/when you push them out will they come back to you?
As soon as I first heard this song I had to stop and have a cry because of how I view this song. Suffering with mental illnesses is bad enough without having people running away from you because of your "dark side".
This song is quite obviously about her anus.
This is the third single by the American Pop-Rock singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson from her Stronger album. It finds Clarkson revealing her vulnerable side as she pleads with a guy to embrace her flaws. "Everybody's got a dark side, do you love me; can you love mine?," she sings. When Kelly revealed this as her third single to Z100's Danielle Monaro, she said she likes the song because it is slower and sweet-sounding. Busbee and Alex G wrote the track. Michael Busbee is an American songwriter, record producer and musician from the San Francisco Bay area. His other credits include Timbaland featuring Katy Perry's "If We Ever Meet Again," Rascal Flatts' "Summer Nights" and Lady Antebellum's "Our Kind Of Love." Russian born, German based songwriter/producer Alex G's father is world-famous cellist David Geringas and his mother, pianist Tatjana Schatz. Alex G has carved a reputation as a successful international songwriter having worked with such artists as The Veronicas, No Angels, Sarah Connor, and Kim Wilde and penned #1 hits in Japan, Germany and Austria.
