Thunderbolt Lyrics

Stirring at water's edge,
Cold froth on my twig,
My mind in whirls
Wanders around desire.

May I? Can I? Or have I too often craving miracles?
May I? Can I? Or have I too often craved miracles? Craving miracles?

No one imagines
the light shock I need
and I'll never know
from whose hands deeply humbled
dangerous gifts
as such to mine come

May I? Should I? Or have I too often craving miracles?
May I? Can I? Or have I too often now, craved miracles? Craving miracles?

My romantic gene is dominant
and it hungers for union
universal intimacy
all embracing

May I? Should I? Or have I too often craving miracles?
Should I? Could I Or have I too often craving miracles?

Craved

Waves irregularly striking
wind stern in my face
thunderstorm come
scrape those barnacles
off me

Should I? May I? Or have I too often now craved miracles?
May I? Or should I? Or have I too often...

All my body parts are one
as lightning hits my spine
sparkling
prime runs through me
revive my wish
inviolable

Can I? Or Should I? Or have I too often now, craved miracles?
Can I? Or Should I? Or have I too often now, craving miracles?
Craving miracles.

Beautiful song. Bjork has such a unique voice and creative talent. It's a simple yet elegant track about wanting a second chance for love. S/he has been reawakened and now feels unrestrained (perhaps emotionally).

Are we sure it's "craving" and not "craven" ? The weird feeling of craving isn't that hard to believe since it's bjork but at the same time this would make more sense.

Either way this song is absolutely breath taking. I feel like it's sort of a battle between the intense desire for love and intimacy and the idea that maybe you are too desperately seeking it out. May I crave this? Should I? Have I already gone too far?

My Interpretation

This song is amazing. I love the way the lyrics are a little complicated, but the meaning is right there if you look hard enough.

My Opinion

I can't help but think that

"Scrape those barnacles Off me"

is a reference to her separation with Matthew Barney, who often uses barnacles as a visual trope in his films
