You Probably Get That a Lot Lyrics

Do you mind
Excuse me
I saw you over there
Can I just tell you
Although there are millions of cephalophores
That wander through this world
You’ve got something extra going on
I think you probably know
You probably get that a lot
I’ll bet that people say that a lot to you girl

The way you swing your head while strolling fancy free
Or melting down some army guys to make green tea
Though there are millions of cephalophores
That wander through this world
You’ve got something extra going on
I think you probably know
You probably already know
You act like I am stating the obvious

It’s the way you swing your head while strolling fancy free
Or melting down some army guys to make green tea

As the headless horseman said to his associate
The bodiless baboonsman cradled in his arms
Although millions of cephalophores
Are walking past my door
They’re invisible to me except for one cephalophore
You probably get that a lot
I’ll bet that people say that a lot
While you are sarcastically lip-syncing along
To words they felt were spoken spontaneously

"A cephalophore (from the Greek for "head-carrier") is a saint who is generally depicted carrying his or her own head; in art, this was usually meant to signify that the subject in question had been martyred by beheading. Handling the halo in this circumstance offers a unique challenge for the artist. Some put the halo where the head used to be; others have the saint carrying the halo along with the head." from Wikipedia.

At any rate, a really weird song. I'd hazard that it is about a guy who really hates a woman who really, really wronged him. It also works on a political level: she backs some cause but refuses to go to the extent of "dying" for her faith like so many cephalophores before her.

^^ interesting interpretation, i hadn't thought of it that way.

it struck me more that we are all going to our graves, we are all cephalophores if you like. some people are bothered about that, some aren't so much. i think this person has seen someone who isn't too bothered that they will die some day? and likes the attitude, and says so. however the object of their interest has indeed heard it all before from a variety of insincere people and so doesn't really believe it.

what the singer likes is that the person is not available to be controlled. all he really wants (like many before) is to control her. and he should know that if he could control her, he wouldn't want her anymore. she knows it. he doesn't.
