Kiss Quick Lyrics
This year all but disappeared
bought into fairy tales
but Sleeping Beauty just kept score
and tried to sleep more
She said, "I'm not quite myself tonight,
but the way you touch me
makes me tongue tied
but that could be the wine too."
"Kiss quick, I got a line out the door
who all think they can save me.
One by one they lay the world at my feet,
one by one they drive me crazy."
She said, "I know love
and it's all push and shove
so stop talking and put your back into it."
Loaded, oh my hands shook to hold her,
I turned her body on...
I turned her body on myself
"Kiss quick, I got a line out the door
who all think they can save me.
One by one they lay the world at my feet,
one by one they drive me crazy.
Shut your mouth, pull me out before this all goes grey.
One by one they lay the world at my feet,
one by one they go away."

"Sold my blood for money, baby...baby
and I love how it feels."

I agree with advivum but used it from the male perspective. He wants love but can't find it in anything. He's trying to buy into fairytales But the fairytale sucks and just works against him... (keeps score, sleeps more)
All he wants is a real love that can save him but each is just a step... A move on... A quick kiss. And each year or each relationship is just wasted year... That dissaperared. Girls just threw themselves at him... The wine, and the put your back into it lines are straight up sexy... These girls are using him when he actually wants something real which goes back to the fairytale...
But I agree with 2 post ago, probably my fav song on the new album. It is so good and so strong a so deep and crushing... It hurts but feels so good....
I believe that's what the bridge means---- "sold my blood for money"---- hes losing the meaning of life -love- in this moderness of the world... The modern love, where it's fame and flash over love and class.... After all that's the whole theme of this album and he said this song was what shaped that whole theme so I think the whole point of the song is in the is modern day world we cannot find real love but rather it's just quick kisses and even faster "bangs" that don't fulfill what love really is... Which is everything.
I hope some agree with what I feel in this song, this is my first post, and I don't wanna look stupid.... This song meant that much to me... I had to share what it made me feel.
Probably because when I first heard this song, I was going through this situation, I interpret it a little differently. To me, it sounds like a man who is involved with someone that everyone says is not good for him (all the people who think they can save him). But he doesn't want to let her go, because he can't, or he's afraid, or he enjoys being miserable. So the people in his life keep trying to pull him out, but eventually, they give up and leave.

Really also dig that interpretation and next time I listen to the track I will try and see it through your sights. I feel like a lot of Matt's songs about that particular subject... For example faster, run, and queen of (K)nots etc... so It could totally have that emotion mixed in as well. This is why I love Matt, his songs are so open to interpretation and no matter what a person is experiencing it hits them in that way. Really appreciate your input.

P.s. I have been through a very similar situation with a girl, hope it...

Take Care.
This is probably my favorite song on this album. It gives me chills. By the way he sings it, I think it probably has the most intense feelings behind it for him as well. It kind of reminds me of Bulletproof Weeks.
I think this song is about the singer not being able to get the one person that he truly wants. He is imagining being with the girl who would make his fairytale come true but she is too jaded by her own romantic let-downs to give him a chance ('But sleeping beauty just Kept score and tried to sleep more'). Instead she only uses him for a physical relationship ('So stop talking And put your back into it') because she claims that she knows love and it never works out further than the physical aspect in her experience ("I know Love, And it's all push and shove, So stop talking And put your back into it.") therefore she's not willing to give the singer a chance.
She keeps her heart protected and distant by being drunk around him ('"I'm not quite, myself tonight, But the way you touch me, oh, makes me tongue tied, That could be the wine too.") so that she can't really tell whether any feelings she feels for him are real or just the alcohol talking.
The singer will take what he can get from her but ultimately in the end it hurts him and he doesn't feel good about it but is in love with the idea of the girl so he loves that he is able to be with her in any way.
I think he also expresses his frusterations with her by being with other women. He is frusterated that so many other women can be with him, want to be with him, and want to give him everything and a 'fairytale ending' - yet despite all these other women, the only one he wants will not give him anything meaningful. All these other women want to be with him and 'save him' from his broken heart and loneliness, but he doesn't want to give them a chance ('Kiss quick').
I think this song is about a girl who is so numb to love or the idea of it She's so tired of love that's failed, love that she put herself out there so many times, but has been so disappointed by its fairytale promises that she just gives up.
"but Sleeping Beauty just kept score/and tried to sleep more" - it's like she wants to live a fairytale, but she's so exhausted by her past that all she wants to do is sleep, she doesn't even want to really try at love and relationships anymore.
The singer seems to be like the "prince charming" coming to save her, but he's in shock with her harshness. She seems to see him as "just another guy" coming to try and save her again.
"Kiss quick, I got a line out the door / who all think they can save me. /One by one they lay the world at my feet, /one by one they drive me crazy."
Those lyrics are so haunting. Its so sad to relate to this so well, to have so many people in your life that think they can save you, but in the end they all disappoint. I imagine a girl in her bed, who once believed in all these fairy tales and now is just so emotionless on the matters of love, it's just another business transaction instead of something whimsical.
