You Got Me Lyrics
I was there when you were lonely
I was there when you were bored
I was there when you were feeling scared
and you were not sure what for.
I was there when you found out
you were madder than hell
you were scared I was scared we were scared
though I did not let that show.
Cause you got me if you want me
You got me, it's right where I should be
I was there when you were worried
I was there when you were sick
I was there when you were positive
that this was not happening
I was there with your father
Oh, he was madder than hell
He was scared you were scared I was scared
though I did not let that show.
Cause you got me if you want me
You got me, it's right where I should be
You got me if you want me
You got me, it's right where I should be
You said "it's my body, boy, not your body, look here
for Christ's sake, we're just kids"
You didn't want to do it alone
so who's to say you do it alone? (alone)
I was there when you were lonely
I was there when you were bored
I was there when you were feeling scared
and you were not sure what for.
You got me if you want me

this song really stuck out to me when I was listening to the live stream of their album. I instantly thought of his wife Misha, and the situation they likely were in when they found out she was pregnant. According to them they met in February and were married by June, and she was pregnant before the ceremony. Sounds like a pretty rushed thing as he started dating her basically straight away after his engagement to Chauntelle was broken. The lyrics lead me to believe it could be about that period of time, but I could be wrong. The over all theme of being "scared" and talking about it being "her body" and how they are "so young" and talking over the options of "doing it alone or not" but then him coming to the realization that "this is right where I should be" makes it sound like she was afraid to have a baby so young but he felt like it was meant to be for him to be with her and for them to have the child together. I don't know, I could be totally offbase but that's my two cents.
I feel bad for Keaton Lazzara when he finds out one day that his dad wrote a song about how he was a mistake..

Yeah, I definitely agree with that, the lyrics spell it out pretty obviously. Whether it's about his wife or not, it's about some young pregnancy. The song refers to her finding out, her father finding out... how they were both scared but he didn't show it. Possibly she was considering not going through with having the child saying it was her body, but he's just saying he was there through all of it, just as he should have been.
The lyrics are really straight-forward as oppose to their other songs (especially on other albums).
I agree with the above, it seems to be about a teenage pregnancy.
This song stuck with me before i even listened to the lyrics, there is something so TBS about it, as well as their fast-paced sound, and it just makes you want to jump around and sing to it... well i do anyway. It just works really well as a whole.
I liked it even more after listening to the lyrics, and the bit that says; You said "it's my body, boy, not your body, look here for Christ's sake, we're just kids" i really like that part because even though it's a decision for both of them, it's a lot of change and their really just kids themselves.
definitely my favourite on the album.
if you look at it from a more general perspective i kinda think it could be someone who has been in love with a friend of the opposite sex for a long time, and now their saying, look ive been with you thorugh all this and if you want me im here. although i do agree with the pregnancy thing i just think you could also apply parts of it to a wider theme
