I like the happy beats and high notes that pervade the whole album, how they sharply contrast the cynicism, depression, and desperation in the damn near hopeless lyrics. Cults's eponymous album is the orchestration of a painfully upbeat polarization. Madeline Follin lends criminally cute vocals and somehow still can relate the anguish of brokenness in relationships and elsewhere. The duo redefine loneliness and self-loathing, in this song particularly, by pairing their especially unashamed and futile lines with the bubble-gum pop melodies heard throughout their album, that only decades ago were the sole match for vapid teen romance.

I don't see the laziness at all. There's a difference between being lazy and knowing that regardless of how much effort you put in, you just can't make someone love you and want a relationship as much as you do. That's how I interpret the person whose point of view this follows.

I've been in this type of relationship. I had already given it my all for a while yet I could see my ex losing interest, and he wasn't being honest about it. So I broke up with him rather than drag on an already dead relationship. Even if you love someone, you can still say, "Hey, there's no point in this anymore. It's not the same." "Cause I would only let you down" You can't make them get back into a relationship. It's not being lazy--it's being sane, not expecting things to magically change. Oh, and a healthy dose of self respect. Respecting yourself enough not to depend on being in a relationship, even if it's obviously a failed/failing one.

This song really just reminds me of being lazy in a relationship. It's saying 'I never saw the point in trying' to create a long-lasting and fulfilling relationship because I'm not willing to change for the sake of this union. I honestly like seeing you happy so I have to let you go and be yourself. I was in a relationship like this for years and at the end of the day you don't want your mutual dependency issues to destroy the love and respect you have for each other and I really think this song expresses that feeling with potent accuracy.

Can't believe this band has so little comments. Definitely about someone being lazy, maybe even afraid to put in effort because then they'll end up more hurt. Haha, probably not.
