Salt & Light Lyrics
Show our eyes true color. We want to hear the trumpet roar...
We want to hear the trumpet roar... with words that trample the pagan’s cavalry.
Pummel the darkness with the light.
Hand in hand, side by side, we will march with full force.
With your words from our throats we will march with full force.
Words that will shake the earth and boil the seas,
trample the bones of the living dead as they roam the streets alone.
We go marching on. Let the trumpets roar. (Go...)
I’m the harbinger, not the author of these timeless words.
Led by the Comforter I sing to you.
And if my throat were to be cut from ear to ear, I hope that these words
would carry on in these songs that I pray you sing one day.
We sing for you. We sing for you. We sing for you. We sing for you.
We sing for you. We sing for you. We sing for you. We sing for you.

The word is most certainly harbinger... As to the meaning of the song, I believe it is about carrying out the word of God, words that could shake the earth, and trample pagan's cavalry. Cavalry being a strong force, the fact that it would trample that which tramples is pretty powerful. The point that it is pagan's cavalry suggest the darkness is that which is not illuminated by God. As a harbinger, he (and those he encourages to do the same) should relay the words of the comforter (the holy spirit). The whole meaning of the title is the two metaphors Jesus makes for the citizens of the kingdom. He compares them to salt and light. Salt meaning, they are the salt of the earth - that which makes the earth palatable (more like bearable) to God and others, and light meaning they are that which may illuminate the light (the word), as taken from the original source (JC). So back to the song, they want to make sure the message is carried out - through music, to spread the word. They sing for you - the listener.
Now apart from the meaning, I find it funny that he says we sing for you, which is awesome - except for the fact that "these songs" he refers to (I'm assuming the discography of ABR) have a very small number of songs that actually have singing in them. So I ask - what, this and the other few? It kind of lessens the impact of the whole "I hope that these words would carry on in these songs that I pray you sing one day" part... Either way - an awesome song off the new album, and there's my take on the meaning
Not sure what harbinger means. Is it synonymous with asshole?

By pagan cavalry he might even mean the 4 Apocalyptic horsemen. As cavalry originally where the horseriders

Tbf I think it's Harvester, not Harbringer. But that's just me
Look up the word Harbinger.
