My Life As Rob Gordon Lyrics

Kelly says that at the end of each relationship
The boy starts quoting lyrics from that Movielife song
And my mom says there's songs with her name in them
Except that one about a crackhead in Janie's Got a Gun
Well Matt says, when I mentioned him in Bar Bands
Kids started asking questions
It got weird kinda quick
And I had a dream that
We named a kid we never had after "Hannah Hold On"
And I haven't listened since
Cause it tears me to pieces

Someone keeps putting on all of the sad songs
I keep singing along
The jukebox turns and I'm gone
I punched in all my quarters
Looking for the perfect swan song to walk out on

Stevie said that if I woke up feeling hopeless
That I should think about it different
That I had it all wrong
It's not the end if you call it a new beginning
Plus it's a chance to write some bitter fucking love songs
I heard Quentin belt the notes to some words that Alex wrote
About dying alone
And I felt sort of whole
It takes a fucked up head to think about dying alone
When you're in you're twenties
So I'm glad it's not just me
It takes a fucked up head to think about dying alone already

Someone keeps putting on all of the sad songs
I keep singing along
The jukebox turns and I'm gone
I punched in all my quarters
Looking for the perfect swan song to walk out on

Someone keeps putting on the sad songs
Someone keeps putting on the sad songs

Someone keeps putting on all of the sad songs
I keep singing along
The jukebox turns and I'm gone
I punched in all my quarters
Looking for the perfect swan song to walk out on

Does "Bar Bands" mention a Matt? I thought it was Max...

Also, it kinda sounds like "Seton," not "Stevie." But you appear to know more than I!

Lastly, what band has Quentin and Alex?

What Movielife song?

The underlying theme of this song is questioning "the end"

Soupy starts off with an anecdote referencing hearing someones' name in a song and how it relates to the end of a relationship(The Movielife - Kelly Song). "Bar Bands" was the last song on The Upsides. "Hannah Hold On" by the Get Up Kids: I never asked to be sorry. If its over its over for sure, I don't regret that I didn't want to. Remember what all this was for.. "Janie's Got A Gun" I think is a meta reference to him talking to his mom about writing this song(His mom must be named Janie).

Then there's the ongoing references throughout the song about thinking about death and how messed up it is to be in that state of mind while you're only in your 20's..I believe Bar Bands was about this too, so that's probably why he referenced it.

My Interpretation

@therookielot Janie's got a gun is a single by Aerosmith about child abuse and incest

I really thought this entire time in the first few lines they were talking about how people quote High Fidelity like lyrics from a song. But really, can you blame me?

A+++ for the High Fidelity reference and this is probably my favorite song by TWY.
