| Senses Fail – Courage of the Knife Lyrics
| 11 years ago
|
Buddy is highly influenced by 20th century mythologist, Joseph Campbell. I remember Joseph Campbell making a reference in an interview about how he was trying to explain to a radio host that God is a metaphor, and the host got defensive like he thought Joe was discrediting "God" So Joe let him have it. Then Joe realized he was in the wrong for attacking the host. He made a comment after it was all said and done, that he had courage with the knife, but not with the blood. Like after you do something to someone to discredit them, you don't want to face it.
Interesting use of JoCamp's quotes throughout the Senses Fail discography. |

| The Wonder Years – My Life As Rob Gordon Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
The underlying theme of this song is questioning "the end"
Soupy starts off with an anecdote referencing hearing someones' name in a song and how it relates to the end of a relationship(The Movielife - Kelly Song).
"Bar Bands" was the last song on The Upsides.
"Hannah Hold On" by the Get Up Kids: I never asked to be sorry. If its over its over for sure, I don't regret that I didn't want to. Remember what all this was for..
"Janie's Got A Gun" I think is a meta reference to him talking to his mom about writing this song(His mom must be named Janie).
Then there's the ongoing references throughout the song about thinking about death and how messed up it is to be in that state of mind while you're only in your 20's..I believe Bar Bands was about this too, so that's probably why he referenced it.
Someone keeps putting on all of the sad songs
I keep singing along
The jukebox turns and I'm gone
I punched in all my quarters
Looking for the perfect swan song to walk out on |

This seems like it was the song that helped Soupy get his shit together pre-upsides. I remember telling soupy about a traumatic experience I had undergone and I was like "yeah dude it changed my life" and then he brought up being robbed at gunpoint, something in me clicked and I put it together. This is where they started to take themselves more seriously as musicians. |

| The Wonder Years – This Party Sucks Lyrics

There was a study a while back that an artist who thought he was more creative when he was on acid. When he looked at his art the next day, it was nothing better than what he would have drawn sober. He only thought it was better because he was in a more positive mood allowing the creativity flow to be a lot smoother.
I don't know how it can make you smarter, I think it can allow you to focus easier and put you in a positive state based on your trip. You're not smarter based on whats in your mind already, you're just thinking differently. |

Wow, I'm an idiot. I figured it was JUST a reference to the term "idiosyncrasy" which works too because according to Wikipedia, this song was deemed as "the success that ruined his career" because it drew attention from his serious works. Soupy is the man. |

Not TN directly. I think it was an experience thing based on where they had a rest stop when they were on tour.
Someone/something must have pissed him off. But the whole point behind the song is he doesn't want to be surrounded by ignorant people. |

That's pretty badass Coby is putting more backing vocals in, it fits so well. It's usually the twins or the bassist. Has he sang on any of their other albums? Besides "Sorry Dudes My Bad" |

That's actually what I was thinking. IDK why they picked tree Village for an opening track. Maybe they should have played the outro to self-trepanation into Tree Village. That would be cool. I mean, self-trepanation has more music than vocals. |

Holy Shit. Go Keith. Sounds like he's pissed that these supposed "musicians", that zero to no effort into the music they create(e.g. brokenCYDE), are also maybe citing ETID as an influence(I'll be spinning in my grave for the rest of my life. Have I taught you children nothing all this time?)? My favorite song off the new album. |

This song is intense. They perform it differently every time I've seen them play. No joke, it's real great. I think this is the song that means the most to the band. |

I thought this opening lyric was about daryl palumbo fro gj. MOst of the bands from the LI scene used to have writing sessions with each other. I guess there was a dispute with Jesse and Daryl during that time and Jesse wrote this. I have no idea. Cuz the ending verse it sounds like "Pink Roses" is playing...which is a GJ song. |

This song is mosty about Jonny:
"I need money, i need clothes, I need women, I need blow!"
hahaha yes.
I also think a lot of it is about how people talk a lot of shit about him cuz of he has a different style of screaming.
I bet Zac comes in here and tells me I'm wrong, then makes fun of me when I see them on monday. |

| Against Me! – Stop! Lyrics

dannyv, that was ignorant as fuck dude.
Bands change, get over it.
If you played the same shit over and over again, you'd want to try something different.
I like how everyone is saying that they sold out because of this album. Did you not read the lyrics to ANY of the songs on this album. Or are you jumping to conclusions like the rest of the elitist fucks?
The latter is a fair judgement on this situation.
Against ME! knows that they're going to get the whole "OMGZ YOU FUCKING SELL OUTZZS" treatment after this record dropped.
They were prepared though. The lyrics in this album act as the contraband. I think the albums whole theme is "Listen, we know you guys are gonna give us shit. But were not going to turn into a bunch of jerk offs like fall out boy."
I think this song is a perfect example of this. They probably made it more radio friendly to demonstrate how shallow the radio audience is.
I think alot of people need to stop jumping the gun.
Sure you can say that the old stuff is better, but to say that this is not Against ME!, is ridiculous. |

I thought it was cuz of her age and he only said "I love you" seven times. One time for how many years they would have to say it to her.
"but do me a favor baby and don’t reply.
Cause I can dish it out, but I can't take it."
I think that's coming from the parents, like sure they can say "I love you" all the want. But they're not going to get a response back. It's kind of depressing for them to think about, so i think it sorta has to do with the "denial" stage of death. I sensed that when I saw the lyrics "and don't reply" cuz they don't want to know that she's never going to say anything back to them again. |
