The Bottom Lyrics

You suffocate
You cannot wait for this to just be over
You want to run and just be done
Your what you can't control here
Don't know what your thinking
This ship is sinking

I will meet you at the bottom
The waves can't wash away all the scars you bare
See you at the bottom
You just hold on to the things that keep you there

You suffer the cost when all this is lost
It just doesn't make sense to go there
All the hate that your fear
It slowly appears back into you with no control
Don't know what your thinking
This ship is sinking

I will meet you at the bottom
The waves can't wash away all the scars you've made
See you at the bottom
You just hold on to the things that keep you there

Just fucking stand for something
You'll never take us all
You never get it right
You never get it right
We'll always stand and fight
You never get it right
It's cold down here at the bottom

I will meet you at the bottom
The waves can't wash away all the scars you've made
See you at the bottom
You just hold on to the things that keep you there

Cover art for The Bottom lyrics by Staind

In my opinion, this song is pretty obviously about depression, but I feel like it's also about the people that use alcohol to drown out the pain.

"You suffocate, you cannot wait for this to just be over." - Suffocation represents the overbearing nature of depression with the person starting to have thoughts of ending it all.

"You want to run and just be done. You're what you can't control here." - The person has started losing control of their life and want to end it all, but can't find the courage to do so.

"Don't know what you're thinking, this ship is sinking." - This could be interpreted in two ways; either this is referring to the people who try to tell the person that everything is okay while not doing anything to help them, or the person is trying to deny that they are depressed to others, but won't be able to keep up the facade for any longer.

"I will meet you at the bottom. The waves can't wash away all the scars you bare. See you at the bottom. You just hold on to the things that keep you there." - The person has resorted to alcohol to cure their depression, but it isn't helping, with the person refusing to move on from the things that caused their depression in the first place.

"You suffer the cost when all this is lost. It just doesn't make sense to go there." - The person's fate has already been sealed, as they're already too far gone to be helped anymore.

"All the hate that your fear, it slowly appears back into you with no control." - The person has tried getting help, but ultimately wasn't able to find a way to go sober, with their depression coming back as well.

"Just fucking stand for something. You'll never take us all. You never get it right. You never get it right. We'll always stand and fight. You never get it right. It's cold down here at the bottom." - This line is to give the people going through this same situation to save themselves before it's too late and that despite how grim it may seem, there is still hope left for them.
