Lillian Lyrics
She was stuck in pictures
While he passed time in film
Oh silly fame, why do you play
Frame by frame, day by day
With reels changing over
And dropping to the sides
Oh solemn soul see where you are
And look to the sides what you discard
Press your lips to mine, breathe in deep and lie
When the cameras roll, hide away your soul
Flash your eyes, forge a smile, entertain
But don't get stuck in something you hate
Bring me the eyes of the earth
Cut off the tongue of the world
Keep the ends close in sight to the means that imply
You're not living the life that you're worth
Pressing your lips to mine, breathe in deep and lie
When the cameras roll, hide away your soul
Flashing your eyes to sell, lying to yourself
Dodging truth form the start, hide away your heart
Turn around forge a smile entertain
But don't get stuck in something painful
Something worse than nothing
We could have been smart
With the plot from the start
Mistakes from the spark
We knew it wasn't love
Breathe in deep and lie
When the cameras roll
Hide away your soul
Flash your eyes, forge a smile, entertain
While he passed time in film
Oh silly fame, why do you play
Frame by frame, day by day
And dropping to the sides
Oh solemn soul see where you are
And look to the sides what you discard
When the cameras roll, hide away your soul
Flash your eyes, forge a smile, entertain
But don't get stuck in something you hate
Cut off the tongue of the world
Keep the ends close in sight to the means that imply
You're not living the life that you're worth
When the cameras roll, hide away your soul
Flashing your eyes to sell, lying to yourself
Dodging truth form the start, hide away your heart
But don't get stuck in something painful
Something worse than nothing
With the plot from the start
Mistakes from the spark
We knew it wasn't love
When the cameras roll
Hide away your soul
Flash your eyes, forge a smile, entertain

Okay, first of all, awesome fucking song! But, uh, I might be wrong on this, but it sounds to me like Lillian is a pornographic actress.
casey writes most of his songs metaphorically from what I've been noticing.
The girl seems to be stuck in a rut of bouncing from one guy to another, while the writer knows that that lifestyle leads to a sad ending. The woman lives her life day to day bouncing from one cheap thrill to another, apathetic to the mess she makes. She forces a smile to convince herself that she prefers this to looking for the true loves she believes will fall apart inevitably.
The writer sees her sad lifestyle catching up to her fast and he wants take her away from it and sweep her off her feet feeling as though "shes not living the life that she's worth".
But in the end shes afraid to trust her heart with anyone as she knows it will fall apart like the rest. No matter how passionate the writer is about her he's just another man she's trying to catch the eye of, cutting the relationship off as a fling instead of a relationship.
she dosn't believe it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. something painful is worse than having nothing at all.
I don't think it's necessarily about a porn star.. I think it's about a couple who was forced into the spotlight after they become famous for some reason (possibly a politician type thing) and they have to stay together for publicity purposes and act like they still love eachother and put on a show for the public while their real relationship becomes more and more hollow and they're both aware they would've been okay together if they'd only avoided the spotlight from the start.
I think you may be right. That was my intuition after listening to the song as well, and things of that nature seem to be a theme of some of their work.
Porn actress.

The woman (she was stuck in pictures) feels her life run at a different pace than the man (while he passed time in film.)

They are stuck in the relationship and she is reflecting how they have to fake their love for each other to make everyone else around them happy.

I think everyone's taking the lyrics too literally. In my eyes, Lillian is just a person who is unhappy with a relationship but feels obligated to stay in it for whatever reason. The references to film are just a sort of metaphor for the act that she puts on, where outwardly she doesn't show how she really feels. I think that it's more plausible that Casey wrote this song using film as the central motif and not that he wrote it explicitly about any one scenario.
