Brain On A Table Lyrics

i know you wanted clouds for company
but you got me, you got me.
and i could give you grief about the divide
that i face every night, it's every night.
but i know, i know, i know
or i learn pretty quickly
that's just the way things go,
the way things go.

but i'm not asking for all that much,
just please wake up.
please wake up.

i know you wanted someone else for company
but you've got me, you've got me.
and you could give me grief about the divide
that is oceans wide, it's oceans wide.
but i know, i know, i know
well i learn pretty quickly
that's just the way things go you said,
the way things go you said.

and i'm not asking for all that much,
just please wake up.
please wake up.

and my brain
nearly lead down my chest
when they opened yours up.
and my heart
nearly jumped out of my head
when they said that yours might stop,
yours might stop, yours might stop, yours might stop.
yours might stop, yours might stop, yours might stop.

please don't stop, please don't stop.
please don't stop, please don't stop.

but i'm not asking for all that much,
just please wake up.
please wake up.

i'm not asking for all that much,
just please wake up.
please wake up.

please wake up,
please wake up.

Cover art for Brain On A Table lyrics by An Horse

I read on their website that as An Horse was touring for thier first album, her mom fell very ill back at home. Her family was unwilling to tell her though because they did not want her to return home early from touring. Kate later went on to focus Walls on this experiacen of being so far from home when a loved one is sick. I believe that this song has to do with her mother and her illness and how she herself would fall apart if her mother did.

I think it could be taken literally, as if Kate is talking to a friend hanging on to life in a coma. It could also be interpreted metaphorically though--like all she wants is to be accepted by the person and she cares about them terribly, but the person is dead and unresponsive to her. She recognizes that they don't care for her but it's really important to her that they do. It's a great song, anyway. I love An Horse.
