To me personally it brings to mind that me ex broke up with me and she is a witch who recently attacked me as a shadow entity in a dream, leaving me in the darkness after harming me in my new house. The thing that leaves you in the darkness IS her, literally using her dark magic to spitefully attack me now we are separated and never talk. She choked me onto the floor in the nightmare, and she was laughing. The lamp turned itself off to reveal the shadow entities two of which attacked me. The lamp, the slip, the floor literally translates to me being choked on the ground after the lamp went out and I slipped to the floor ending the dream. Dude seriously do not fuck with witches!!!

i've seen it; i don't think so, not really. i just assume (probably wrongly) that since they're canadian they're referencing a specific place in canada which has a strange history that's somewhat darker than the honeymoon spot it used to be. the falls are a big draw for suicides and the like.

i'm pretty sure that this song is my favorite. the line 'the thing that maybe once seemed harmful is her' just feels very sad to me. sort of pathetic and desperate, as well as 'you wouldn't eat unless i told you so'--the person in the relationship who's in total control and then the person with none of the control. but sort of switched up, because it seems like the person who has the control ends up bearing the burden of the attention from the person they supposedly 'don't care' about; it's a really perverse and gorgeous song.
