Betty Lyrics

You got a quick snap-lock on your cold, cold heart
You got your YSL kicks and a red birthmark
In the shape of Canada
That you try to keep a secret

You got a quick clack walk and a cold hard stare
And if your eyes could talk they'd say they just don't care
Before they wander off
To hide inside their sockets

You've got your scars and you've got your birthmarks
You've got Toronto hiding on your hip, honey
You've got your secrets
You've got your regrets
Darling, we all do

You got a fool-proof plan for a lonely life
You won't be no one's daughter and no drunk man's wife
If a wife at all
It's a silly institution
Or so you keep insisting

You've got your scars and you've got your birthmarks
You've got Toronto hiding on your hip, honey
You've got your secrets
You've got your regrets
Darling, we all do

You're cool coy, 'bout your strawberry hip
It's you that's hidden by the expectations
We want to see you, won't you show us where to start?
You're talking trash with your replica lips
It's you that tickle in the conversation
Sweet Betty, won't you show us who you are?

You've got your scars and you've got your birthmarks
You've got Toronto hiding on your hip, honey
You've got your secrets
You've got your regrets
Darling, we all do

You've got a quick snap-lock on your cold, cold heart

So often we find ourselves consumed with fear in what others think of us that we forget the reality of it all.

We are all hurting. Everyone has something they are ashamed of.

Brooke Fraser is portraying a character that feels she has regrets the size of "Canada" on her hip she is hiding and afraid to show and Brooke is trying to tell us not to be afraid to be real about who we really are, not who we want people to think we are.

Opening up your life to the people who love you is a beautiful thing.

it's about how a girl set a plan to be a lonley girl with all her secrets and regrets - but she doesn't understand that we all have them. this person doesn't want to open up to the world.

I love the beat of this song Brooke :) I can travel for hours just listening with this song. I think there many among us that can relate to this song, especially with the lines "You've got your secrets,You've got your regrets, Darling, we all do", because most of us people has a regrets in our past, whether we accept that fact or not. I think the song encourages everyone not be afraid to show their feelings, thoughts and the real us to the world. We may all have mistakes, or if not mistakes maybe we are not in a good state in our life, but the good thing is that we should not be discouraged by those. :)

Any idea what "Y.S.L. kicks" is a reference to? I'm also not getting the Toronto part; is that a piece of the Canada-birthmark showing?
