I think "Golden" is about a relationship where both parties have their differences but they still love each other. They have their constant quarrels; they do try to make things better even though sometimes they still end up falling. But they both get through it and they turn out golden. In other words, beautiful.
I'm not too sure, but that's how I first interpreted the song. :)
