Fly Lyrics

I fly over the mountain to save my solar wake
I fly over the mountain to save my solar ways
I fly over the mountain and save my solar gain
I fly over the mountain to save my soul again
I fly...
I fly, Monday morning
I fly, Monday morning
I fly, Monday morning
I fly...
I fly, Monday morning
I fly, Monday morning
I fly, Monday morning
I fly...

This is a song about transitions, voyages and new beginnings, about rising from the darkness of the night and facing the light of day, floating over the sunlit valleys and mountain peaks... or perhaps a dream thereof? It expresses the desire to detach and move away from the noise and chaos of the inhabited world, and in a wider sense to move yourself to leave the old behind and look ahead towards the new. The song thus captures the double theme of returning to nature and seeking peace and solitude, that is, of harmonizing one's inner and outer worlds.

"I fly over the mountain to save my solar wake" "I fly over the mountain to save my solar ways" "I fly over the mountain and save my solar gain" "I fly over the mountain to save my soul again" "I fly..."

For me, "flying over the mountains to save my solar gain/soul again" refer to the struggle of live, accept and them overcome the feelings that you experience when you lose someone you love deeply, someone really special and unique for you life.

It's the struggle of feeling that kind of pain and then letting it go so that it will not "kill" you. It's the inner desire of not let yourself surrender to the pain and the despair, the desire to resist the temptation of falling into depression, thus giving up on your dreams and ceasing to really live your life. It's about going on with your life without shutting yourself away.

"I fly, Monday morning" "I fly, Monday morning" "I fly, Monday morning" "I fly..."

I fly.. I continue to go on... Monday morning, it's a new start, a new start again, a new week, a new day, a new piece of my life. I go on. I do not stop here, I do not shut myself away, in the past. I live here and now, I go on, really, I go on. Yes, I feel pain but it will go away, now I go on, without "killing" myself, my dreams.

My Interpretation

First of all, amazing album, so enjoyable. I haven't heard anything quite like it.

When listening to the first half of this album I get the sense that it follows the traditional sequence of family life, and all that means to those involved, but in reverse order:

  • Blackberry: Two people in love, coming together.
  • Ghost: I think this might be intercourse, or the desire to have a kid?
  • Kawaii: The birth of a child, and welcoming it into this world.
  • Feather: A farther expresses his memories of his child growing up, and desperately tries to understand and remain relevant to his child.
  • Heart Baby: Having to accept that you, as a parent, will fade, while your child will chart a path that you may not necessarily fully agree with.
  • Fly: The child, now adolescent, finally leaves their home. He has to, to give space to themself ("save my soul").

It's just a theory of course. There are plenty of aspects that still raise questions. But to be honest, for such songs, a little mystery is more than welcome.
