Choose the place where you stand
You best get comfortable
This might take quite a long time
You will die where you land
Your thoughts are horrible
You will be punished for them
Is there another side to your story?
Is there something you're not telling me?
I feel the cool water rushing over me
Into the sea
I close my eyes
I think of all the places that I'd rather be
That's all I have now
Wait, I'm afraid your face might drift into the forest
Right there
Hey Mr. Professor
Need your machine to go way back
You know these things work out not best
You're born against
You're ex-infest
You best get comfortable
This might take quite a long time
You will die where you land
Your thoughts are horrible
You will be punished for them
Is there something you're not telling me?
Into the sea
I close my eyes
I think of all the places that I'd rather be
That's all I have now
Right there
Need your machine to go way back
You're born against
You're ex-infest

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been looking for Sherman lyrics since the show at El Rey! This song rules! I'm sooo excited for the album to drop!!!
I have NO idea what this song is about. Pinback always writes songs with odd meanings or no meaning at all.
I believe the song is warning against too much fantasy, particularly addictive video games. This is a common theme for Pinback. Think Blue Screen Life.
"Wait, I'm afraid your face my drift into the forest." means computer screen/ TV screen video games. Sometimes fantasy can be so addictive that the people will miss out on life and all its lessons.
fantasy games and whole other genres of video games are responsibe for holding thousands of people back away from their fuller potential. Many people cannot handle the stress of non stimulating addictive fantasy. A result of the endless enterainment we take for granted. Many live their lives sheltered, sometimes being so emotionally scarred from lake of real world perspectives, from then on having to try very much harder to get comfortable.
At least thats what I feel like Pinback is trying heal people through their music, sometimes lyrics that seem vaque or without meaning are actually a beacon of perspective to others, based on their own unique experiences. It would be a much better world if all those intelligent geeks out their would get off their asses and do what needs to be done.
On the old Rocky and Bullwinkle show in the early 60's there was a segment with a genius dog named Mr. Peabody who adopted a boy named Sherman. To keep Sherman entertained and teach him history, Mr. Peabody invented a time travel machine called WABAC (way back). Don't know if this song title and the line about going way back relate to this because the rest of the song lyrics don't seem to have anything to do with it.
Definitely Peabody and Sherman. "I close my eyes and dream of all the places i would rather be"
