Baby says she's dying to meet you
Take you off and make your blood hum
And tremble like the fairground lights
Baby says if ever you see skin as fair
Or eyes as deep and as black as mine
I'll know you're lying
Baby says a howl of romance I'll get
From all your sleeping dogs, you thugs of God
I'll get one yet
Baby says for all I've forsaken
Make something of all the noise
And the mess you're making
And all the time's it's taken
Baby says there's death in these silver curls
That break up in jails
Send you diving for pearls
Without a care in the world
Baby says she's dying to meet you
Take you off and make your blood hum
And tremble like the pinball lights
Baby says a howl of romance I'll get
From all your sleeping dogs, you thugs of God
I'll get one yet
Take you off and make your blood hum

I'll know you're lying

I <3 this...one of the best by the kills. Blood pressures is amazing, all in all. favorite lines: "Baby says if ever you see skin as fair, or eyes as deep and as black as mine, I'll know you're lying"
"Baby says for all I've forsaken make something of all the noise and the mess you're making. And all the time's it's taken"
but most of all: "Baby says there's death in these silver curls, that break up in jails, send you diving for pearls without a care in the world"
^ ingenious.
I don't really get it. It's probably about a promiscuous girl who's addicted to a guy and she's trying her best to deliver him. But it seems more like just a sex song and the video is kind of fetish-minded also...
lyricaly this is one of the (if not the) strongest offerings from The Kills, i love it. this line
"if ever you see skin as fair or eyes as deep and as black as mine. I'll know you're lying"
so good.
very very beautiful song. AMAZING I shud say!
Surely it's pinball lights in the repeat of the 1st verse.
Love it, but baby's not making sense. Anyone care to explain...please?
I'm really not sure if this is right but Baby could be alison mosshart because her stagename in the dead weather is 'Baby Ruthless' i don't think that's right but it's a possibility

I don't know if I actually believe this myself, but it could be a honeytrap. A suspicious girlfriend calls 'Baby' to find out if her man is cheating on her.
love the song and the kills and finally the song is about a girl with a sex addiction.
It's not about a sex addiction. It's about some fearful person who cannot be alone so s/he takes up with the easiest pray...and also the prettiest/handsomest because s/he needs to feel good about him/herself. It has NOTHING to do with sex. It has to do with NEED and DESPERATION and LONELINESS. Just look at the 50 year old and up loners in the bars/clubs....THOSE are just older versions of the person the song is describing. They're not free. They're captive. They gave up on themselves and striving and gambling and reaching and true freedom long ago! Please don't try to...

"Baby" is a woman who has been exploited sexually by men with more social power than herself. She is vowing to get something that she values out of the transaction. "A howl of romance" is not all that she wants. She wants all that would come with it. The thing that makes this song so striking is that the words that "Baby" says paints a picture of hopelessness. She is dying to meet "me" and I am given snippets of information that tell me that she is dangerous and desperate and that she has already projected attributes onto me that I may not agree with. She reminds me a bit of Alabama from True Romance. She got her 'howl of romance" but things didn't go too well after that.
jamie hince said that this song was for his wife in a 2013 new york concert. its obviously just a love song and should be understood in such context.
