Games Lyrics
With all the noise above
He tried to call his name,
The trial would go on,
The day had just begun!
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
The diamond cuts right
The crowd behind went wild
They weren't all that proud
By now they hear it loud
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
I'm okay,I'm all right
I was out late last night
Empty world, empty world
I will wait one more night
He tried to call his name,
The trial would go on,
The day had just begun!
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
The crowd behind went wild
They weren't all that proud
By now they hear it loud
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
Living in an empty world
I was out late last night
Empty world, empty world
I will wait one more night

They had guitars on it originally, but it just sounded better to the band without them. There's a lot of weird stuff on that song, most of the weird sounds are drums that have been messed around with. The part at the end of the song is so old (Unknown 1), they've had it for about 10 years, at least.
Heh, Julian's words verbatim.

Ohhhhh, ba ba, papapapapapapa, papapapapapa, papapapapapa, papapapapapa...
Am I the only one who thinks this is about war? Like, for example "living in an empty world", not to mention "they weren't all that proud, but now they hear it loud". Like when soldiers go mentally crazy from killing someone, but their country is so proud of them and give them praise, even though all they can think about is that they killed people.. I think really all the lines in the song can relate to that. Does anyone agree?
wickedly new and wickedly awesome
i love their new sound, its amazing.i will forever love their work!the line "by now they even..." is actually "by now they hear it loud"..now the rest,im not quite sure.
to me their new sound sounds like 80's music and i love it............

No clue what the song is about, maybe about celebrity treatment in the courts/jail stints/rehab. "With all the noise above, we tried to call his name" (helicopters & news reporters), "The diamond cuts arrive, the crowd behind went wild"(fans & supporters). Could possibly be about them being treated as a higher class of citizen. "Empty world, empty life" (material things don't bring lasting happiness). "I will wait one more night" (the large number of "accidental" ODs) Who knows? I'm probably far off. Either way, love the song. Love the album.
The end, "I'm ok, I'm alright" to the end, reminds me of the ( second?) verse of "How Soon Is Now?" by The Smiths. "There's a Club would you like to go?" verse. Just sad and resigned from life, depressing. Strange how it reminds me of The Smiths with no guitars in the song at all.
I'm addicted to thing song... I don't know what it is, but I can't stop listening to it.
Anyway, IMHO, I think it's about how a lot married couples (or just couples in general) that never really love each other and get divorced. The word "love" and marriage are meaningless nowadays because for some reason, people can't stay faithful ("living in an empty world... I was out late last night... empty life"). The third stanza, I think is about how a lot of couples when they get married deep down don't realize or expect that they'll be married to their spouse "till death do them part" ("the diamond cuts arrive... they weren't all that proud") and/or they ignore all signs that it's not going to last until they can't be ignored anymore ("with all the noise above, we tried to call his name... by now they hear it loud.").
Just a guess....
I like this song too. It's more Electro Pop.
I often grin when the chorus comes in and the words "Living in an empty world" are repeated. Seems to put on synthpop. The song is different from anything The Strokes have done before instrumentation wise with synths, congas, claves and hand claps.
