Will Do Lyrics

It might be impractical to seek out a new romance
We won't know the actual if we never take the chance
I'd like to collapse with you and ease you against this song
I think we're compatible, I see that you think I'm wrong

Any time will do, my love
Any time will do, no choice of words will break me from this groove
Any time will do, my love
Any time will do, what choice of words will take me back to you?

Your love makes a fool of you, you can't seem to understand
A heart doesn't play by rules and love has it's own demands
But I'll be there to take care of you if ever you should decide
That you don't want to waste your life in the middle of a lovesick lullaby

Any time will do, my love
Any time will do, no choice of words will break me from this groove
Any time will do, my love
Any time will do, the choicest words will take me back to you

Oh my reddest rose, caldera, set it off
How your fire grows hermosa caldera
Glistening through your fussed blows careen your caldera
Set it off, as your body flows the second hand flashes
Passes over your skin like time
My love, any time will do

Any time will do, my love
Any time will do, no choice of words will break me from this groove
Any time will do, what choice of words will take me back to you?

This is the song that stuck out to me during my first listen to Nine. Pretty lusty lyrics. Sounds like a man trying to woo a reluctant girl. The first couple of verses express promises of security from the turbulent world of love. While the last verse consists of sexual imagery, with the "reddish rose caldera" a metaphor for her.... I'll just say lady parts. Calderas are usually water filled craters, and with the explosive imagery, the lyrics take on this visceral tone contrasting with that of the rest of the song. This last verse is an uncovering of the less than pure intentions the speaker has for the girl, with the rapturous yearning to run his "second hand" over her skin being as unremitting as the passage of time, referencing the second hand of a clock. Clever word play there. The double entendres referencing base desires amidst emotionally charged smoke screens lend this song a more manipulative meaning than the listener would expect upon the first spin. From whatever viewpoint it is listened to, it's a finely crafted piece.

I think the song is about a man waiting for his love to finally see him with the same eyes he sees her. He'll wait as long as he needs to for that to happen.

The meaning is pretty self explanatory; it's about love. I just wanted to say that this song is HOT.

The song starts with the man singing to his ex lover trying to persuade her to not move on to someone else and stay with him. He is trying to persuade her to come back to him, but she does not love him like he loves her. He is almost blaming her for leaving him, saying that he has needs too and she can't leave him because he needs her. He is telling her that she would be safe with him and he would love her, but it is not enough for her. He keeps asking her what can he say to persuade her to stay with him. The 5th stanza changes in tone from persuasive to angry, but in a hurt way. She rejects him. "A second hand flashes passes over your skin like time" means that she has moved on and she is now with someone else. He calls her a caldera, meaning that her actions have had a painful effect on his emotions, almost like a volcano exploding would cause disaster, she has caused him pain. He then keeps pleading with her, asking her "what choice of words will take me back to you." He basically is telling her that he will always love her and will be there when she realizes he is the one who will love and care for her.

That's just what I got from it, I could be totally off. I've had this song on repeat all night though, absolutely love it!

I like your interpretation Shmegan though I would read it as a man who is infatuated with another who has just recently come out of a long-term relationship and isn't ready to get into anything serious - or at least is using that excuse to the suitor. The reason for this is the first few lines of the song: "It might be impractical to seek out a new romance / We won't know the actual if we never take a chance". These would seem to be his attempt to convince the recipient of his attention to take an interest in...

It's feminine and you're also right about the meaning of the word

My Interpretation

This is a classic love song. New relationship and they're both a little reluctant because they don't want to get hurt if it ends bad. He's saying if they don't try though, they may never know so he's waiting for her to come around. 2nd verse he's reassuring her she should take the leap. The "you dont' wanna waste your life part" is him saying don't deprive yourself of something that could be great. Chorus is saying that whenever she's ready, he'll be there waiting and nothings going to change that. LOVE IT!!

Smack on Martian Matt.

What's amazing is the mood it achieves despite its pining lyrics. Without the music to accompany the message, you would think he's letting her walk all over him. "Anytime will do" at face-value sounds like: "I'll wait for you forever, even though you haven't shown the slightest sign of ever wanting to be with me." But then you hear it and think: where does he get the confidence to sing it like that?

It's Westley's "As you wish..." to Buttercup. It's Howard Roark's "Yes, Miss Francon".

When you get to the bridge, there are all these sexy metaphors MattTheMartian has been keen on pointing out. I've got to say, though, to me the "second hand" isn't about his hand, it's about hers. Like that of clock, it starts in the 12 position and makes its way down to the 6; as in, where her hand goes when she's sleeping alone in bed... Look at the first line of that section. He's giving her a command to "set it off".

Where does he get the confidence to sing it like that?

My guess is he knows she can't hold out forever, and will come knocking eventually. This is siege warfare, my friends.

I’ve gotta say, this is one of the more hypnotizing, addicting songs I’ve heard in a long, long time. “Caldera” is Spanish for “cooking pot,” which I think makes what Martian Matt says true. Hermosa caldera means something like “gorgeous cooking pot.” One of my favorite lines is “I’ll be there to take care of you if ever you should decide that you don’t want to waste your life in the middle of a lovesick lullaby,” which I take to mean like, “You are wasting your life right now because you’re not with me, you’re with some sickening fool.” I have heard this song over and over and over again, and I’m never going to get sick of it.

I like the xylophone (?) at the beginning. The singer wants the person he loves to make an effort for him, anytime will do...

Lyric correction: I think "careen your caldera" should be "cariño caldera". Cariño is a term of endearment in Spanish. It makes sense contextually because he says "hermosa caldera" in the line before, and it just makes more sense in general.
