Lies of the Beautiful People Lyrics

Well this ain't no sideshow
This is the great unknown
This is the poison we take
Yeah

Outside the velvet rope
Standing there all alone
Are the grotesque and ashamed
Yeah

Well if you think real beauty's on the outside
Well that's a far cry
From the truth

Maybe all the information you received
Well you should not believe
There's no proof

Save yourself from all the lies of the beautiful people
It's time to run from the lies of the beautiful people

I feel so traumatized
Doped up and televised
Life can be cruel and insane
Yeah

But we've got these ugly scars
On our infected hearts
Maybe it's time for a change
Yeah

And if you think real beauty's on the outside
Well that's a far cry
From the truth

Maybe all the information you received
Well you should not believe
There's no proof

Save yourself from all the lies of the beautiful people
It's time to run from the lies of the beautiful people

Save yourself from all the lies of the beautiful people
Just run and hide from the lies of the beautiful

Save yourself from all the lies of the beautiful people
It's time to run from the lies of the beautiful people

This song is about being your own person and explains that everyone is beautiful. Everyone defines beauty as what is seen in media like magazines or E!, but the beautiful people are lying when they say that this dress is 'in' or people don't wear 'those' anymore...hence the name. Referring to the saying, "Beauty is only skin deep," Sixx: A.M. successfully explains that beauty isn't just on the outside because it's the uniqueness people possess that make them beautiful. People should be their own person and not care what others think.

I am very excited to listen to their new album, This Is Gonna Hurt. However, after previewing a minute and twenty seconds of each song on iTunes, I was not disappointed, but it definitely was not the original Sixx: A.M. Hopefully I will be able to understand the lyrics better when the album is released.

Obviously a song about how people tend to jusdge one another by their looks and this entire world has some f***** up meaning about what is beautiful and what isn't. Michael stated it perfectly. Amazing song.

Lies of the Beautiful People Analysis

In the song “Lies of the Beautiful People” by Sixx AM, the lyrics discuss the main idea that beauty is within a person, rather than what a person looks like. It also makes suggestions about “lies” that people, possibly the media, make that spread the opinion of what society claims is beautiful. In the first verse, the song states “This ain’t no sideshow this is the great unknown”. The lyrics are saying that although something seems strange, it’s actually just different and “unknown”, which does not necessarily make something odd. The second verse talks about society’s rejection towards people as it says “outside the velvet rope, standing there all alone, all the grotesque and ashamed”. I believe the “velvet rope” is referring to something such as a circus or “freakshow”, which is symbolizing the way society treats those who are different as “freaks”, causing them to feel alone and ashamed. The next two verses, which are repeated multiple times throughout the song say “Well if you think real beauty's on the outside, well that's a far cry from the truth. Maybe all the information you receive, well you should not believe if there's no proof”. In these verses, the “information you receive” could be referring to information promoted by media of what a “beauty” is. A lot of magazines, for instance, praise celebrities for being what they perceive as beautiful and bash those who do not fit the same standards. The verse “well maybe all the information you receive, well you should not believe if there’s no proof” is stating that the information released by the media is nothing but judgmental opinions that we should not believe. The chorus repeats the phrase “save yourself from the lies of the beautiful people”, almost serving as a warning to those who are listening, telling them to “save” themselves or rise above the preconceived notions of what beauty is. The chorus really highlights the overall meaning of the song, and encourages the listener to open their mind and be accepting of all people. The last, and possibly my favorite, verse of the song says “but we’ve got these ugly scars on our infected hearts, maybe it’s time for a change”. I believe the “ugly scars” are symbolizing past mistakes that the people of society have made. These mistakes being the cruel judgments of others. This verse is also saying that it’s “time for a change”, once again referring to the fact that people need to open their hearts and minds to those who are different, thus changing the way society thinks and functions.

Song Meaning

While on the surface, the lyrics to this song appear to be a simple build off of the cliche "beauty is on the inside", the chorus suggests a more abstract sociological meaning: that 'beautiful' people have created a veil over the eyes of 'ugly' people, making them think that the reason their life is so unsatisfying is because of personal faults or something they're doing wrong - when in reality, their life is unsatisfying because they're not good looking, and people instinctively treat unattractive people poorer than attractive people.
