I take it as a break up song. the girl still has nostalgic memories and feelings for the guy (I woke up wanting you) but I'm guessing the guy pulled a heartless break up on her, probably some sadism in there (did your heart succeed / the way you want it to).
the second part of the song is more of a "now I'm realizing that I gradually hate you, you're an asshole" kind of thing; vast sky --> dead star --> cruel sea
that's how I portrayed it.
im kinna agree with the first comment and i believe the middle part "so I question your name, did you think about me when the day came I saw it wash away,the me in you,as sorrows do" make it more believable, the guy had forget the relationship really fast and shes kinna pissed of about it.
