I believe that this song is about a man that cheats on his girlfriend. She forgives him and continues to stay in the relationship. 'She's showing me mercy' 'she's letting me live with my demons' It's clear that the relationship is now damage and that the relationship will never be the same and as strong as it was before. 'We're never getting out of this mess'
My favorite part of the song is when he says ' when you forgive but cant forget. When you are drowning but still have breath' this song is way underrated. This is one of my favorite songs by the script!
