Nothing Lyrics
Am I better off a quitter
They say I'm better off now
Than i ever was with her
As they take me to my local down the street
I'm smiling but I'm dying trying not to drag my feet
But after one too many I know that I'm never
Only they can see where this is gonna end
But they all think I'm crazy but to me it's perfect sense
And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if i go there now
I can change your mind turn it all around
and she'll listen this time even though they're slurred,
dialed her number and confessed to her,
im still in love but all i heard was nothing
I know I'm with her face to face, that she'll come to her senses
Every drunk step i take leads me to her door
If she sees how much i'm hurting, she'll take me back for sure
Oh i wanted words but all i heard was nothing
Oh i got nothing, I got nothing
Oh i wanted words but all i heard was nothing
Oh sometimes love's intoxicating
Oh you're coming down your hands are shaking
When you realise there's no one waiting
Am i better off a quitter
They say i'm better off now than i ever was with her
Oh i wanted words but all i heard was nothing
Oh i got nothing, I got nothing
Oh i wanted words but all i heard was nothing
Oh i got nothing.. x3

This was an instant favourite for me. It took a few listens for me to absolutely adore this album, but I do. Can't stop listening to it now. And this song is definitely a highlight and a favourite.
It's pretty clear what it is about. Heartbreaking track about the end of a relationship where the singer is left broken hearted and obviously desires to continue the relationship.
His mates take him out for a night on the town, presumably of heavy drinking to help him get over her, but this doesn't help. Even though his friends say he is better off without her, he still wants her to take him back. He drunk calls her and even rocks up to her door drunk, so she can see what a mess he is and hopefully because of this and his declaration of love, will take him back.
He still loves her, but she doesn't and this is evident from the 'She said nothing. I wanted words but all I heard was nothing'. Which ultimately ends up as the singers cry of 'I got nothing', stating that the end of the relationship is also the end of his world metaphorically. He is left empty handed, heartbroken and still in love.
I think they will release this one. It's an incredibly emotional track that I think many people can relate to. The Script are wonderful. All's hoping they continue to release amazing tracks like this one.

"A drunken mind speaks a sober heart."

THIS IS SUCH A GREAT SONG TO LISTEN TO! WOW...LOVE THIS SO MUCH! <3

I saw them in concert and before they sang this song, Danny mentioned that it was about after a break up when your friends bring you to the local bar to get you drunk and you want to call the girl to convince her to come back to you. Basically he referred to this song as a song about drunk dialing and wanting to get her back after a hard break up! Awesome song by an awesome band!! Even better live!!!!

Every time I hear "She said nothing Oh i wanted words but all I heard was nothing Oh i got nothing, I got nothing"
I get goosebumps. It makes me wanna cry as if i'm feeling that way. It's like expecting the least you could from the person you loved so much and... nothing...

I really do love this song and album in general. But the part that really gets me is the part where he sings "Oh sometimes love's intoxicating Oh you're coming down your hands are shaking When you realise there's no one waiting"
Because that moment when you realize that you've truly lost the person you love is the most painful. Whatever he had with his ex is ended, and that one moment when he realizes it is terrifying.

Also, that lyric is: Every drunk STEP I TAKE leads me to her door. :)
ah thanks, will update now :]

The classic tale of love and loss.
The song is about the miserable party of the breakup. One party moves on, the other's still very much in love. His mates try to cheer him up over several rounds of alcohol - making him try to forget the girl. The effect though is the opposite. Inebriated and obviously less inhibited, he goes to the girl's place (or calls her)to tell her he still loves her and he gets - NOTHING.
OUCH!
I love this song. For me it's the best song in the new album. Wanted to vote a million of LIKEs in Youtube for this song. :-)

this sums up how a brokenhearted guy thinks when he's drunk. the emphasis on the word "nothing" just breaks my heart.
great song!

for someone who hasn't moved on yet for two years (whistling...), this is perfect.
