Hiding My Heart Lyrics
Adele sings the hell out of this song, don't get me wrong; however, I feel it necessary to point out that this is actually a hidden track off Brandi Carlile's album, The Story.
Glad someone posted this. I didnt even know Adele remade it till I went to look up the lyrics for it. Brandis version is much better in my opinion. Too bad she doesnt seem to get the credit she deserves for it..

All I can say is wow! Adele knows what it is to love deeply. I don't believe everyone has the same ability of feeling deeply for someone.
I can relate to this song and Someone Like You, as I once had a whirlwind romance; the kind that makes your soul dance, and just the memories can make your heart flutter. Those relationships rarely last; if they do the magic fades. I am certian that like a professional athlete; it is best to leave it on top of your game so to speak.
I think this song is about meeting someone (a rebound) after a bad break up, and how they can help you through it. I think it is a message to that person to explain that she cant love them, not properly - because she hasnt let herself grieve for her past relationship properly because she has been in another relationship with this person.
"And It was in the darkest of my days When you took my sorrow and you took my pain And buried them away, you buried them away"
So her pain and her sorrow have been buried away, therefore she hasnt dealt with them and overcome them.
"Woke up feeling heavy hearted I'm going back to where I started The morning rain The morning rain And though I wish that you were here on that same old road that brought me here It's calling me home It's calling me home"
She is saying that those feelings are catching up with her, and she needs to go back, to deal with them, even though they are dark, she knows if she lets them come they will be sooner over (the morning rain signifies this, as its only the morning, the rest of the day is yet to come). She is then saying that she wishes he as there again, because he took that pain away - but she nos that she has to deal with it alone.
She is hiding her heart because it is broken and it is not yet fixed. And she cant give it to anyone else until it is fixed.
"I wish I could lay down beside you When the day is done And wake up to your face against the morning sun"
She wishes she could love him, because she knows he would do anything for her and love her back. But she just cant.
"Dropped you off at the train station Put a kiss on top of your head And watched you wave And watched you wave"
I think this a metaphor for her letting him go. she drops him off at the train station - she is leaving him, for him to travel on to another path/destination - hel move on, but she will go back to her home- to mend her broken heart.
i totally agree with your interpretation of this song, i could def relate to it and your meaning helps me alot also.

damn it this is what i am going through, I was the rebound guy and I did my best to help her with her pain but the past keep catching up with her. Still love her and it sad to go on our separate ways.

Yea I think this is my favorite song off the new album, but it's hard to say because the entire album is completely amazing!
Like it.
beatiful, perfect song for me i think it means that she met someone who was amazing and he came in a hard time in her life and he made her happy but they were'nt exactly in love ,but in a way they were ,and she wishes she could love him and spend time with him, but she is hindig her heart and not telling him what she feels 'i woke up feeling heavy hearted I'm going back to where I started The morning rain, the morning rain Although I wish that you were here That same old road that brought me here Is calling me home, It's calling me home' this is my favourite bit ,i think it means that shes going back to how she felt and although she wishes he was there with her, there was something wrong about it all and that its all happening again with someone else? i think at the end shes asking her self if she really can spend her life hiding her heart away or if its wrong. xx
I think she could be singing about a man who lives far from her and it's hard for her to readily give him her whole heart because of the distance. I think this because she speaks of how he's wonderful and makes her so happy but then he leaves on a train and she wishes she could lay down beside him, but he's not there. What do you guys think??
I think you're totally right! I relate so much to this song right now and i crumble when i listen to it.

I think it's about her, me, or someone; who meets meets a person at a low point in their life (after a recent break up, per se). And she is surprised at how much this person makes her forget about what she was upset about. But the one catch, because there is always one, is that they don't live near each other. And even though they get to see each other when one visits, there is always that end....

And even though they get to see each other when one visits, there is always that end. She is used to people always going away (past boyfriends, friends, parents), used to knowing that everything has a premature end. This thought, despite her feelings for this other person, brings her back to being upset and depressed.
"Drop you off at the train station Put a kiss on top of your head Watch you wave Watched you wave
Then I went on home to my skyscrapers Neon lights and waiting papers That I call home I call it home"
This part gets me every time because it's the beginning of this cycle. You go from an intense high, being with this person who makes you happy, and then they are gone.... and you're alone, again, just like you are used to being. Just like it's always been. And you don't want to be super invested, because it will hurt more, when that eventual end happens.
I think this song is about being afraid to give your heart, because love never lasts. "like everything I've ever known, you disappear one day, so I spend my whole life hiding my heart away" - to me she is saying that love always disappears, so i'm not going to get too attached. I can relate to that sentiment.
Just a note:
Not to be an ass, but Adele made a remake of this. The original is Brandi Carlile's. I love Adele, don't get me wrong, but this song was made by Brandi Carlile. No one can replace it.
Also, I think the primary meaning of this song is spelled out well. She meets someone who she falls in love with, but because she's been burned before there can't be a happy ending. She won't give all of herself to them, no matter how great the person is or how much she is loved by them.
It's a gorgeous song. (But then again, Adele and Brandi both make gorgeous music).
