This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
I believe this song is simply Ace Ender's expressing his struggle to make it in the music industry. As some of you may know, his upcoming 2011 spring album maybe his final album if is financial status doesn't change.
Anyways, this is about giving one last final go at making music work financially.
Ace Enders is probably one of the best artists of our time. I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually is taught about in music appreciation classes. If not for his musical abilities, then for what he's trying to turn the music industry back into.
I think it's just supposed to be taken literally.. he wants his old relationship back. The bridge can be taken as the whole making it argument, but, it could also just be about a girl.<br /> <br /> Also unfortunately, Ace Enders will never be brought up in a music appreciation class, the things he's doing now aren't revolutionary, there are many other independent bands that have been doing things like he is now for years. Also while a lot of his songs are amazing, he's not really a pioneer or spokesperson for any genre, so while he is a great musician, unfortunately, unless he somehow pulls off a "hey there delilah" scenario, he's not going to be around much longer.
