Faster

First off, I believe after watching the music video and hearing it multiple times, she is saying "I go faster for LIFE". But anyhow...

I do not think this song is about lust at all.

[I can’t see, cause it’s burning deep inside. Like gasoline, a fire running wild. No more fear, cause I’m getting closer now. So unreal, but I like it anyhow.]

While this could be taken as lust, it appears she is realizing a new feeling that is arising within her. IT can be comparable to a revolution, a movement, self actualization, etc... BUT lust just doesnt fit the tone of the song to me.

[I go faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster.]

Whatever you interpret the song to be about, we can all agree that she is going "faster." lol. Its about her getting better/faster/wiser/something and taking on life in a better way and maybe through new lens.

Shes saying that she cannot live in a world of dogma and corrupted traditions. Like many youth today, she has awoken and can see the world as it is (again, self actualization?), but regardless, its some major change/realization she has experienced. She can't hide the feeling because she knows in her heart its the right thing to do. She is taking this change and going full speed ahead with being the new person she is.

Something (or someone) has mesmerized her heart in such a way that she feels uninhibited and can tackle anything and break out of any boundary. It may be tough but she's been scared before and she's proud of them, and she knows shes spent too much time idle.

Overall, I don't agree with the "lust" or the "edge of rationality and emotion" thing. She's had a revolution/movement occur in her heart and she can't take things the way they seem. Shes on the fast track to enlightenment and the fairytale that everyone else lives in won't do for her.

So i guess I shall be the first to say that I really like this song, its def got a 80's pop vibe to it I think, but I can't wait for the Unforgiving, especially since I was worried after Where is The Edge, I don't really have a translation sadly...sorry

Second comment, yeah! I LOVE this song!!! Within Temptation never ceases to amaze me with their music. Although, I didn't particularly love "Where is the Edge", either, like fallenpug said.

I believe this is a really simple song. It describes the point where a person is at conflict between emotionally being driven by lust, love and self-indulgence and rationally knowing that they only living in a LIE. And the song takes place at the moment of impact between acknowledging both....

A simple analogy would be a drug addict that believes he has control over his habit that satisfies his social, sexual and emotional needs...but he knows he is slipping, he cannot continue the habit without accepting it's all a lie...

FYI, it's 'faster for LIFE', not 'love'. It's got a whole new meaning now, doesn't it?

For the first line is it "I can't see" or "I can't SLEEP" ? Depending on the source it's always one of those two (currently "see" is more popular), I always thought it was "Sleep"....

I think that if you listen to the whole of the album I have a feeling it is about vampirism and that this song is about her coming to terms with her being a vampire. But in realation to that it is the same meaning for what everyone has said. This would explain the Faster, Faster bit as she now can go faster physical and emotionaly.

For me, this song is about beeing bipolar, and more specificly about beeing hypomanic.

When hypomanic, everything about you goes faster, it feels like you have awoken, see everything more clearly, it feels like nothing can stop you.

People will tell you that being hypomanic is bad but "i can't harm from the feeling cause it's right" is what you think when you are there. Everything just fits.

Good song, I had the same thoughts as Lemon on this for the most part. However the hardest part of this for me to interpret is when she says "Faster, and faster, and faster,", etc. The song is titled that, but what is it really saying about the relationship aspect? - Anyone with half a brain could think of sex, though that certainly isn't it obviously.

Really, re-read the lyrics. It starts off with,

"I can't sleep 'Cause it's burning deep inside Like gasoline On a fire burning wild"

You can easily see that it goes amongst the lines of "being driven by loust, love, and self-indulgence" and how its hurting her, but she "can't" stop it.

"No more fear 'Cause I'm getting closer now So unreal But I like it anyhow"

She's not afraid of the consequences or aftermath because she's already at a "point of no return" to where its impacted her enough so it doesn't phase her with caution. She's only doing it more and more and enjoying herself because even with the bad out-come she's lost a level of self-respect, or something on those lines to where it doesn't matter to her. So she continues to

"I go faster, faster Faster, faster Faster, faster Faster"

See, then its just "FASTER, FASTER, FASTER" from no where. Is she saying she's feeding into her temptation, addiction, or lust, etc?

It isn't really explained in depth about what she's feeding into, though obviously with the mentions of love its more than likely a relationship of some sort.
