If You Think This Song Is About You, It Probably Is Lyrics

Some friends, you left me hanging
In a room with a noose and a chair
You told me to stay put
And reminded me why I was there

Cold-blooded and misguided
You thought that this would be your best
Then you tried to hide it
A chance to move ahead

Today was the day
You tried to shut me down
Today was the day
You tried to shut me down

Be honest
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back?
Be honest
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back like a whore?

Close-minded with no direction
A chance to prove who you were
My friends, you forgot to think
Of all of the things that you're not

Today was the day
You tried to shut me down
Today was the day
You tried to shut me down
Today was the day
You tried to shut me down
Today was the day
You tried to shut me down

Be honest
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back?
Be honest
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back?
Be honest
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back like a whore?

This song is very obviously directed at his former bandmates in Chiodos. Not a former lover.

I'm surprised at how blunt Craig is being about leaving Chiodos. I never really heard anything about the breakup, so I wasn't sure how hard it was. But the fact alone that they kicked him out almost right after his suicide attempt really displays how much they really weren't there for him.

"Be honest Did you ever mention my name Did you get sick of the shame Did you lay on your back"

I think this might be referring to their embarrassment of having Craig in the band (for some unknown reason), and their attempt to make him forgotten by continuing on with new members.

So this is my first post on SongMeanings... I really like this song, it's one of my favorites off of the album (along with Sex Life.) I'm going to go over parts of the song...

: Some friends, you left me hanging : in a room with a noose and a chair

I love this part. The pun is awesome, and I'm thinking along the lines of Chiodos, it's probably about his suicide attempt.

: You told me to stay put : And reminded me why I was there

So I'm curious as to whether he thought about leaving Chiodos previous to them kicking him out, and if so they might have told him to stay with them, and told him he was there because he couldn't do well on his own, he needed the band's success or something like that.

: Cold-blooded and misguided : You thought that this would be your best : Then you tried to hide it : A chance to move ahead

I'm thinking maybe he's saying that they were thinking about how to further the band, and they did that by kicking him out... they then tried to hide the "cold-blooded" nature of it by in interviews saying how they "wished him well", etc.

: Today was the day : You tried to shut me down : Today was the day : You tried to shut me down!

They tried to shut his music up, but he came back strong as ever.

: Be honest : Did you ever mention my name? : Did you get sick of the shame? : Did you lie on your back? : Be honest : Did you ever mention my name? : Did you get sick of the shame? : Did you lie on your back like a whore?

I'm thinking with the "did you ever mention my name" he might be asking if they were still getting or trying to get popularity with his name. Especially even if it wasn't just with Chiodos. The Chiodos members may have still called themselves "friends of Craig Owens," or other people he knew from maybe high school talk about how they know Craig. And the "whore" might refer to the band dropping out one member for another, I don't know.

: Close-minded with no direction : A chance to prove who you were : My friends, you forgot to think : Of all of the things that you're not

So he's saying that the rest of the members were close-minded and had no direction for the band. By kicking Craig out, they thought they could prove who they individually were. But he says they forgot to think about what they weren't (such as being good at vocals, etc. That was always Craig's thing.)

That's just what I'm thinking. This song is confusing to me though, and there's probably a million ways to interpret it.

Shadow123pam: I was just thinking it was about the members of Chiodos.

He has to be talking about chiodos and how they kicked him out. Mean he starts off with "Some Friends," and they kicked him out. I love this song basically throwing it back in there face. Chiodos is nothing with out Craigs Voice

Chiodos is definitely the whore in this song. IF you watch the video, she tried to bury him but he came back, with the rest of the band. it also changes from him in the interrogation room coughing up dirt to her. (Btw watch it on Vimeo so its uncensored. MUCH BETTER.) Also the first verse is basically how they told him it because of all his side projects it was his fault that they kicked him out and that because of that he pretty much killed his career. So yea just like the song title says, its about those so called friends that think this song is about them.

definitely about his former bandmates from chiodos. The title and opening lyrics make that seem pretty clear

"Some friends, you left me hanging In a room with a noose and a chair You told me to stay put And reminded me why I was there"

could have to do with how they kicked him out pretty shortly after his suicide attempt and how they didnt help him cope with it.

"Close-minded with no direction A chance to prove who you were My friends, you forgot to think Of all of the things that you're not"

this might be how he didnt agree with the creative direction of the band and how they kicked him out to prove they could make it with out him and how they focus on craig's flaws instead of their own

that was just my initial take on the meaning
